Task manager on my windows desktop says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance. I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

I noticed that when I closed a tab in Chrome, the process would stay active in Efficiency Mode, and I suspect it actually crashed Windows for me a few days ago (or the Firefox equivalent did). I applied the fix, restarted Chrome, opened and closed a tab, and the process went away like it's supposed to. This really should be an option you can change from within Chrome without having to jump through hoops. IMPORTANT: The page doesn't exist any more, so you'll have to open it through the Wayback Machine: Here (hover for link safety, as is good practice)

This also worked for me it was 2 spaces of input after the " what's weird is this efficiency setting only came on when I downloaded a new game and I couldn't find any way to disable it, I could definitely tell it was making chrome act slow and irregular. thanks again for fix!

Can confirm this works for me, and I tried this with other Chromium browsers such as Brave and Opera, the solution works there as well. Thank you very much!
