How to disable efficiency mode in task manager? Windows efficiency mode is making apps like Google Chrome unusable.

![](https://learn-attachment.microsoft.com/api/attachments/e8c660f6-34c2-4550-a3a6-0c856ae2def3?platform=QnASince yesterday (28 March) Google chrome is unusable. Task manager on my windows desktop  says that efficiency mode is active for several but not all sub-processes of google chrome and I believe that is the reason for the drop in performance.

I am able to disable efficiency mode for each individual sub-process, but *it returns a few minutes later. I cannot permanently disable it.*Simple actions such as changing a tab or moving the window causes it to freeze for several minutes.

  • I have no recent or current updates to install. Everything is up to date.- There are no other demanding processes / apps running on my pc- I have tried altering Chrome's performance and memory settings. Nothing changed.- This problem is the same with Edge and some other applications.- Efficiency mode is greyed out for the entire application. Only certain sub-processes of chrome are in efficiency mode.

The only difference between yesterday and today, is that efficiency mode is active non-stop.

I do not want efficiency mode running at all for google chrome as it is the main browser I use for work and school.

Thanks. Good investigation. Will give that a try and post back my experience.

Updated: no such setting in chrome://flags. Did you set this in Chrome?

No, the setting is in Firefox. Type address: about:config

I changed my solution to only fix Firefox. My Chrome just went back to efficiency mode again...

Never heard of Brave, but will definitely be checking it out. That stupid EM just froze my genealogy program again today and lost me 3 hours of research. I do back-ups often, but not THAT often.

    Thank you.

Thanks for confirming my reply above on disabling works for you.
I could not find way in this thread to mark my previous thread above on May 28 as a solution or answer.
