How to turn off Windows security asking me for a password to see my Google Chrome passwords

Had same issue and chrome settings were fine. Problem is your Windows / MS account.

Now turning this off is a security risk but I will trust you are an adult and accountable for the things you purchase & do. With that said:

Found solution because I had same issue. It asks because you are logged into MS account on Pc Windows. Probably logged in when setting up new PC/OS. If you go to your settings/accounts and switch to local account, it will sign you out of MS account and create local admin account. You can select skip/next when prompted for password - not fill it in - if you don't want login at reboot/wake.

I DO NOT want anyone to save my passwords----I keep getting an annoying pop-up

Then a black box with dots-------PIN

I never turned on the setting in Chrome, but when I updated my laptop security, the option to use the hello login was changed inside the browser. When Microsoft makes any security setting changes, I want to be asked. When they make a change in someone else's software product, I get steamed.

It's not Microsoft that enabled this for you, but actually Google Chrome and based on the following article, it's likely something you enabled yourself when Chrome asked sometime previous to the more recent events. possibly related to a different purpose, since one it's enabled for one reason it's enabled for all of them.

And the true reason Google Chrome and also Microsoft itself for their own Windows Hello and Edge browser are requesting this is that it'll eventually be a requirement of the FIDO 2 standards that all of the major names like Apple, Google, Microsoft and others have aided in developing to remove the need for passwords altogether, instead moving to something called passkeys that better secure website access without you needing to remember anything, as the following article discusses.

Search for the word 'passkeys' to read more about these on your favorite 3rd-party website that may explain them more simply, since some articles about this are too technical for many users.
