My microsoft account got hacked by a rambler.ru account and replaced my original email with theirs. that email address is [PII Removed] i requested a security info change from that email address back to my own but now my account is locked for two days and i'm not sure if requesting a security info change alone would be enough to keep the hacker from my account.

from my understanding too, I believe that they originally got to my microsoft account by hacking my email credentials.

Hi Keiran,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Usually when a hacker changes the Email on a Microsoft Account, then that account cannot be recovered, it is lost and there is no method to recover the account.

If you have been luck enough to be able to recover your account, when the 2 day time period has lapsed, it would be best to ensure you have a very strong password on your account and enable 2 factor authentication on your account to ensure the hacker no longer can access your account.

  1. If the hacker/hijacker has changed the email address by creating an alias then deleting your address, now a non-primary alias, you will not be able to recover this account.

Check for that by trying to sign-in with the original address https://outlook.live.com If you are told that the account doesn't exist, you're out of luck.

Microsoft Support contacted via phone or chat won't be able to help you with this.

I had the same experience and now after two weeks of trying to get someone like a real person to look into this i have a lost access to over ten years worth of family photos and legal documents in Onedrive, my skype account and my microsoft Office 365 subscriiption, Plus he has access to all of the above. They turned off multi factor authentication and phone verification the took over my email momentarily to send emails. Took over Netflix and ugraded the subscription, took oer instagram, then tried to take over Twitter and a few others. I spent two full days changing login emails and passwords everywhere. Luckily my email provider for that login picked up the traffic and froze my account so i was able to login and retrieve it with their help.

    No such luck with Microsoft.

Because my subscription is paid by Paypal they cant find any transction. All they ask for is credit card details.. What century are we in.? I an give them over ten years history and transaction s details, emails about linking accounts of changing passwords.. better yet.. I am still using the devices that were being used two weeks ago in Australia.

This account I used for games and my other account is listed as family on this one, from years ago. linked in facebook as well. from years ago. but i cannot get anyone to listen or help me. I have been with microsoft for years. since the days of Microsoft 3 and Edlin batch proecesses with Qbasic.

If only they would send verification to my phone, which has not changed for over twenty years.

I cannot give up however because all my legal documents and family memories are at risk. My Boys, their weddings and children. My coomplete legal history at the mercy of a known hijacker.

There are so many articles about this trojan and microsoft accocunts..

There is no doubt malware took my account. The email in use ie EXACTLY as per all the blogs and community pages. @rambler.ru.

An AI bot should be in use automatcially cancelling any requests for that email for goodness sake,

I will do what it takes to get heard,.

I guess i can start by raising a case with PayPal.

    Then try consumer protection.

I just need to talk to a person that can help me.

Robotics that can login to my account and notice that all security has been changed and find that ok, apart from simultaneously raising my blood pressure, anxiety and depression levels, is just another way of keeping the little person busy until they give up in despair.

I expected some protection or assistance. We are given surities on saving all our most precious and identifiable informaton safely, yet when they get hacked, no real response at all.. '

I am sending multple account recovery forms just in case but sadly, I am almost certain now the assessment is automated and I am not causing even the slightest bump in the machine that is corporate Microsoft.

Many thanks for your time and patience in letting me express some of my deepest worries and fears.

My deepest condolences to anyone else caught and left floundering in a pool of automated ridiculously useless help pages.
