My microsoft account got hacked by a rambler.ru account and replaced my original email with theirs. that email address is [PII Removed] i requested a security info change from that email address back to my own but now my account is locked for two days and i'm not sure if requesting a security info change alone would be enough to keep the hacker from my account.

from my understanding too, I believe that they originally got to my microsoft account by hacking my email credentials.

Hi Keiran,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Usually when a hacker changes the Email on a Microsoft Account, then that account cannot be recovered, it is lost and there is no method to recover the account.

If you have been luck enough to be able to recover your account, when the 2 day time period has lapsed, it would be best to ensure you have a very strong password on your account and enable 2 factor authentication on your account to ensure the hacker no longer can access your account.

  1. If the hacker/hijacker has changed the email address by creating an alias then deleting your address, now a non-primary alias, you will not be able to recover this account.

Check for that by trying to sign-in with the original address https://outlook.live.com If you are told that the account doesn't exist, you're out of luck.

Microsoft Support contacted via phone or chat won't be able to help you with this.

    I GOT MY ACCOUNT BACK.

So basically my computer was hacked and a keylogger virus was put on it (which is now gone).
HOWEVER, I was able to COMPLETELY rid my Microsoft account of the intruder and the way I did it was quite pesky.

Basically, I had a laptop which had the Microsoft account linked to the device, so therefore I was able to see the full email written out in my account settings.

The way I actually got access into the account was by using the full email, then I used it to attempt a login, then instead of using the password I used the device's pin and it gave me access to the account.

From there it's a cakewalk, you delete all the intruder's emails, and set the primary alias to yours, reset the backup email and delete the old one.
*MAKE SURE TO REFRESH THE BACKUP CODES AND ALSO LOG OUT OF ALL OTHER SESSIONS SO WHOEVER LOGGED INTO YOUR ACCOUNT CANNOT GET BACK IN!*

I'm unsure as to if this will help anyone but it really helped me, now I got my Microsoft account back and am able to play Minecraft yet again.

Yes my original mail is the one visible under my information, do you know how i would delete the rambler.ru address?

At https://account.microsoft.com/ under your Info > Account info >

(on the right) Edit account info > remove that address.

You're using two step verification, right? Make sure you're using a strong password. https://www.security.org/how-secure-is-my-password/
