Windows 11 network shows "connected no internet access" but I am online, can connect to most websites, but some win apps think I'm offline and do not work

Over the past few days my win 11 PC network connection started showing connected but no internet access status. I can get online and access most websites, but some windows apps like Spotify thinks I am offline and will not work. I think this may have happened after the most recent Win update. Have run network troubleshooter and rebooted my modem with no effect. See several references to this issue in Win 10 but nothing for Win 11., Very frustrating and would love to hear some possible fixes from the community.

    Kibitiz64 and everyone else. Thank you for this thread. This precise thing happened to me on Nov 13 2023. Kibitiz accurately described this issue as computer is connected to the internet yet the internet widget indicated “no internet” which resulted in certain services not working. In my case Outlook365 was working with Gmail but was not working with my company email since Microsoft Exchange was indicating “offline”.

    I tried resetting the network adapter through device manager as well as running the connection troubleshooter as well as connecting to alternate networks none of which worked.

    After reading through the entire discussion, I chose to uninstall Norton as a first step. After completing the uninstall and rebooting, my system is functioning normally again. I am running Win 11 pro on a Dell XPS 15 9575.

    That's a lousy workaround and defeats the purpose of subscribing to a VPN service.

    Mine is up for renewal and I am thinking of switching. Am tired of the upsell all the time and the ability to use the VPN.

    So, after being on chat all morning with Norton and losing connection several times, Norton eventually told me to use the "Split Tunnel" option to omit apps that don't work with VPN. Doesn't sound like a great answer to me...

    Launch Norton device security product.

    In the My Norton window, click the drop-down arrow next to Secure VPN.

    Click Settings.

    In the Settings window, click the right-arrow next to Split Tunnel.

    In the Split Tunnel page, move the slider to enable Exclude apps from your Secure VPN traffic.

    Click Add.

    In the Add Another Application window, select the application that you want to exclude from the Secure VPN traffic and click Open.

    Click Turn On VPN.
