Windows 11 network shows "connected no internet access" but I am online, can connect to most websites, but some win apps think I'm offline and do not work

I have the same Issue, and it's driving me crazy, as well as the other people in the company. We all are on a VPN (Cisco Anyconnect)

Our Network is doing fine, and the issue appears with wifi and lan. It's not computer related, as the same behavior can be observed on Dell, HP and Lenovo Laptops, either with direct connection to the cable, or via docking station.

The issue is, that some apps recognize the internet connection, while others don't. for example coroprate onedrive works, private onedrive doesn't, and others.

The quick fix for me is: connect to vpn, wait till the icon shows offline, unplug lan cable from dock, and plug it in again immediately. the vpn connects again, and then Windows recognizes the connection and shows the correct lan icon as online.

the issue is clearly Windows - it cannot handle the network switch correctly.

Fix this please - forcing a company with 5000 employees worldwide, to unplug their cable every morning is ridiculous.

I am also seeing this issue, but on multiple Windows 11 Pro computers in the office. They do not have Norton and they are not using a VPN. I have not seen this issue with any Windows 10 computers but seems to be wide-spread with 11. When this happens no Microsoft products that need internet connection work properly. I have users that need to connect to their email through Chrome because Edge and Outlook think they are offline.

This is an issue that Microsoft needs to fix, they broke it and are well aware of it. It's pretty bad when I can connect to a computer remotely (not through a VPN) and then not be able to use Microsoft programs because I am "Offline." Can't be offline if I connected through the internet. :)

A solution or fix would be nice, Microsoft!!!

Just a few additional remarks.

I'm experiencing the systray icon problem when my Norton VPN is on. If I turn the VPN off, the icon resumes its "normal" aspect.

Using the ipconfig /release when the VPN is ON, is not a good idea. You get the right icon, but you lose the Internet connection (that really made me laugh).

I'm just hoping that others with this problem will read through to the end of this thread before trying all the time-consuming and often fruitless possibilities. My PC is a recent Asus laptop (wireless Realtek 8821CE) and I've had BT problems and now this, but I couldn't say exactly where the problem lies: MS, Realtek/Asus or Norton. I just wish we could bill them for the time we waste.

Since I'm able to access all the Internet services that I need, this problem is "apparently cosmetic" for me. I hope it gets fixed by the culprit for the sake of others.

I have yet to find a permanent solution, however what works for me when it is an issue is open command prompt, run

ipconfig /release

and then

ipconfig /renew

Brings the tray icon back to connected and my desktop apps function appropriately.
