I am trying to update windows to 22h2 in an attempt to troubleshoot another issue i am having (games crashing when booting up dx12 with shaders with "out of video memory" error, same games work on dx11 though) and i have tried multiple times to update to 22h2 but it continuously fails. Windows will download the update, restart, install the update up to 25% and crash with blue screen showing an error with NTFS.sys i believe. So maybe the drive is corrupted by i've do so much to try to fix that.

i have tried to the SFC scannow steps, chkdsk /f c:,

i've tried 2 separate m.2 drives booting win 11 on them each with a genuine microsoft win 11 usb/key,

i've done multiple clean installs on both drives

i've formatted/deleted the info on drives to do a clean install

i've tried multiple graphics cards for dx12/shader issue, same problem, so not the cards.

i've rolled back gpu drivers, reinstalled drivers, used DDU as well for that.

i've updated all my drivers in general.

installed cc cleaner to check rootkey/scan computer

installed malwarebytes to check for viruses/etc.

i've tried different ram, tried different ram slots and combinations like single slot, dual channel, quad channel

reapplied thermal paste on the cpu

removed/installed cmos battery

messed with shader cache in both nvidia and tried multiple pagefile configurations for virtual memory

tries start up repair which ends with something like (unable to fix the issue)

i think there's more that i've tried but ive been at this for about 12 work hours over the last couple of weeks with no success with my DX12/shader crashing issue and now this windows update issue.

My system specs are:

msi 4090 gaming trio

32gb 5600mhz corsair ram

1000w msi psu

asus z690-e wifi mobo

13900k processor

i'm desperate for answers for both the windows update issue and the games with dx12 crashing immediately at boot with preloading shaders like Hogwarts, callisto protocol, dead space remastered, kena, MW2, etc.

    One more thing, you are using a 13th Gen processor on a 12th Gen board. Is there anything in the manual as to which M.2 slots will or will not be available regarding the 13th Gen processor?

    i appreciate all the responses.

    yeah, both my drives are acting as if i need administrative remote access rights.

    i did detail dis on dis 1:

    do you think i should reinstall the OS again? i've done this multiple times but i used the official win 11 usb drive to do this, not a media creation tool usb.

    im debating buying another motherboard to see if its a motherboard issue as well.

    but so far, I cannot update my windows OS to the late to 21H2, my gpu driver installation tends to fail sometimes and needs to be installed multiple times to not fail, I cannot play DX12 games that have preloaded shaders without it instantly crashing, and now i can't make a new simple volume on the other drive even though its formatted. This OS is just feeling like its hanging by threads but i can play games like WoW and league no problem.

    There was nothing specifying which pcie slot i would need to use for the 13th gen processor. just needed a bios update to use the 13th gen processor.

    everything was working fine up until a few months ago. i might try ordering a new motherboard for testing and get a z790

    I would really try removing the other drive. After you do that, run the system for a while and use some of the file checking utilities, such as the SFC and DISM, to allow the system to get back to normal.

    Have you noticed any problems with the Corsair ST100 Headset? If able, you may want to remove that device and remove its drivers, then reinstall after the upgrade.

    In your log, probably during the rollback phase, I see many default Apps having problems being reconciled. Things like a ToDo list or others. It appears to be happening during a DISM operation, stating certain files cannot be found. If Disk Management is giving you problems, it may also be compromised.

    Clean installs are usually a good thing, except for the work of rebuilding the install.

    the corsair st100 is actually a headset stand with a usb hub.

    i can try removing the empty drive sometime today when im not working.

    When you say it may be compromised, do you mean i might have some malware on the PC causing me to not be able to control my drives?
