There was nothing out of the ordinary for the ram usage checking the resource monitor. it never went above 11gb when i was starting up the games.

I did not change any of the video memory settings in these fresh installs. I would literally make a new install of windows, update windows (or try to) install steam, install my graphics card and its drivers (which seem to fail unless done multiple times or reset the pc) and then attempt to play the dx12 games which crash. all default settings.

I have done a memtest86 on the motherboard for the ram which took a while and it came back no issues for both sets of ram.

I wanted to try one more thing last night and what i did was install windows 10 and not installing the graphics card and just try playing the games with the igpu since its dx12 compatible as well. I had interesting results.

So first, i made a win 10 media creation tool usb drive, installed windows 10 on the new motherboard and my second m.2 drive. I did not have it connected to the internet this time for the installation since the mobo needs drivers from a usb to get wifi/etc. Once windows was done installing, i installed the drivers for wifi, and started windows updates/mobo updates, however, i was still getting corrupted file issues when i do sfc /scannow. i was also getting errors trying to download some updates.

I was able to eventually get the corrupted files sorted out with the cmd line DISM/etc. and then i was able to install the windows updates fully. So far everything seems fine.

I then install steam and install callisto, deadspace and hogwarts, all games that was crashing before with the "out of video memory" issue. Surprisingly, callisto and deadspace booted up fully, albeit, with very low frame rate since its just the igpu. When i booted up hogwarts, it did not boot ALL the way, however, it actually got really close to loading all the shaders, about 70% opposed to my 3% and crash i would get with the nvidia graphics card.

So i try opening hogwarts again, the game just ends up crashing sooner and sometimes doesn't even open. I believe this is just because the game is extremely resource hungry and it just crashes in general, not being of video memory. i dont get the same video memory error when it crashes on the igpu.

So since the computer seems to be stable for the most part, i try something slightly different. instead of hooking up my 4090 and installing those drivers, i connected my older gtx 1080ti and installed those drivers. I start the games and yep, i still get the same "out of video memory error".

So i am very confused to why this video error keeps happening. i have tried 3 separate graphics cards since this has started, 1080ti 11gb vram, 3090 24gb vram, 4090 24gb vram, brand new ram, 2 separate m.2 drives, an entirely new motherboard.

The only things i have not changed is the processor and the power supply.

So i am about to go buy a 13600k processor and also just for the hell of it, buy a new m.2 1tb ssd for testing. Essentially, buying a new computer.

If i must, i have other powersupplies i can use for testing.

Could you open the resource monitor, resmon.exe, and check the memory tab to see how it is being used? There is a bar at the bottom showing what is using your RAM.

Some settings that were determined when you first installed the game, may still be in place. Something you might try is to uninstall and reinstall after your system is proven to be stable.

You also mentioned your video memory before. Did you set anything that changed how that 24 GB, or less for other cards, of video memory was seen? If all of your video cards are showing the same error, then something you are using might be causing those types of errors.

If you reinstall again, try to let the system run for at least 24 hours prior to throwing the resource hungry games at it.

Well...the problem is not the motherboard. i had an msi mpg z790 edge wifi arrive today and i swapped everything except the current m.2 drive and used the secondary drive. i installed windows 11 on that drive with the new motherboard without the gpu installed. Also, there was no internet so i went through the OOBE and skipped the account setup since the mobo did not have the drivers for wifi/ethernet.

After the installation, booted to windows, default mobo settings, i was able to download all the msi drivers and install them, as well as updating windows completely.

let it run a bit, installed steam and some dx12 games. installed my 4090 gpu and geforce drivers. everything going well. Started up the DX12 games and i get the same exact error "out of video memory"....

I tried my 3090, "out of video memory" i tried my 1080ti "out of video memory"...

the ram is new ram 5200 ddr5 and its running at 4800 since the motherboard is on default settings, not running xmp at the moment.

as i was typing this, the computer is running idle and out of nowhere just blue screens with the oh so familiar error "Page_Fault_In_nonpaged_area" code...

i can try some more testing but man....i feel so defeated. can do more testing over the weekend but i never had a pc issue as stressful as this.

Here are some event viewer details from it crashing when using dx12. You will see things like nvwgf2umx.dll, bitsperf, perflib, sysmain.dll, etc. i looked all that stuff up and tried fixes for it. seems like its indicated that something is missing for the .dll area? Not sure, but i tried the fixes, did not resolve the issue:

I am thinking of formatting and installing windows 10 instead of windows 11. any thoughts on that? maybe its an 11 issue with my setup. my 9900k system is using windows 10 with no issue. Also, i will try a different graphics card initially with the next install to see if some how the 4090 is causing a corruption.

i wasn't particularly monitoring the heat. i can take a look at it again sometime tonight or this weekend.

Callisto will run fine in dx11 mode though. its when dx12 is on is when the game will crash. but not all games can work on dx11 so thats not a good fix.

i have reapplied thermal paste and reseated the heatsink a few times as well just in case.

my new motherboard came in, ordered an msi one this time MPG z790 edge wifi.

i want to try the same processor/gpu/case/psu but with the other m.2 i have. any objections for me using my other m.2 that i used to test with the computer thats having issues?

When the shaders loaded, the cooling fans came up during that process. Are you watching your system for excess heat?
