Except it was Amazon that pulled the app from the Microsoft Store. So why would Amazon then hosts it back onto its own store which cost them their own bandwidth? It's a free app so Microsoft ain't getting a cut, so the smart thing would have leave it on the Microsoft Store and let Microsoft paid for the bandwidth.

Amazon just laid off 2000 people on their hardware division (which includes alexa).

Alexa doesn't make money. Cortana doesn't make money.

That's why they are gone. It is as simple as that.

My guess, and this is strictly a guess is that the laptop was built before they killed the Alexa app. I don't have the foggiest idea why it wasn't pre-installed since the computer says that it is "built in" but I am guessing that maybe it was removed because the files needed for it to interact with no longer exist. I had Alexa on my old laptop and transferred the installation files to my new laptop since I could no longer download it. The installation files no longer worked because they could not communicate with certain files on the Microsoft server.

    Actually I was partially incorrect.

Microsoft and Amazon signed a deal in 2017 integrating Alexa with Cortana. In order for Alexa to work in PC's, the PC would use Cortana --- then Cortana talks to Alexa, then Alexa talks back to you.

Microsoft and Amazon terminated the deal in 2021.

Since Amazon never made a standalone version of Alexa on PC, even if you install the Alexa app, it would not work. That's why they pulled the app from the Microsoft Store because that version requires Cortana to talk to Alexa.

I did as suggested on this forum and installed an old version, then in the Windows Store under 'Library', I updated the app to the latest. Its an app similar to that on my TV and its not as functional as the app on my phone, but it does work for checking your devices.
