I can tell you what exactly happened.

The alexa app was designed by AMZN Mobile --- for Windows 10 mobile phones --- but it happened to coincidentally can be installed on windows 10 PC. You can see some apps (such as Dolby Access) on Microsoft Store is available for PC and XBox's as well.

But Microsoft killed the Windows 10 mobile phones in 2017 and the last Alexa app update by AMZN Mobile was in 2018.

It is also the reason why Microsoft killed off Cortana's consumer skills functions in 2020 --- because when they started making Cortana, they were still trying to make windows 10 mobile phones, Then they killed the windows 10 mobile phone.

It is really as simple as that --- not some global conspiracy.

I just had a chat with Amazon customer service and learned that the app was removed from the Microsoft store on 3/30/23. I suggested that Amazon should host the app and the customer service person agreed and said that he would submit the request. I would suggest contacting Amazon and making the request also. Maybe if they get bombarded they will pay attention. BTW, the agent I spoke to was "Adam." If you get someone else and they do not tell you they will submit the suggestion, perhaps report the person as not doing their job and keep trying until you get someone responsive.

This is exactly what I am seeing, looks like a competitive thing to push Cortana down our throats

I log in with an MS account. Always have. Alexa works pretty much the same on my PC as it does anywhere else. I can control the same things with it and basically do the same thing as with a typical Echo Dot. Is it perfect? By no means, as my floundering around on this page demonstrates, but it is working for me as it should.

I came here because Alexa was not launching at startup on my PC. It was working mostly fine otherwise (normal typical Alexa... controlling smart home devices, playing music, setting reminders, etc.) but I noticed that the "launch at startup" function broke months ago, so today I tried to fix it. After digging around I decided to try uninstalling and reinstalling it only to find it missing from the Microsoft Store. The supplied link worked and now it shows up again in the store and I was able to reinstall the app fine. Launch at Startup still doesn't work even though it's enabled. Another brilliant job by MS.
