this was the fix for me. I opened phone link, clicked on settings, and under features, i clicked the drop down for messages. I made sure the toggle for ON was checked. and then i selected "show replies from group chats as individual messages"

all of a sudden i started getting my messages.

Hope this works for anyone looking!

    Hi Nuno,
I'm Sumit, here to answer your query at the Microsoft Community.

Are you talking about older messages? If so, it is not supported due to iOS limitations.

    Known Issues as per Microsoft:

    Messages

Phone Link does not support creating or replying to a group message, or sending or receiving media in messages

Phone Link will not receive the first message from a new recipient in Messages

Phone Link does not support sending images, GIFs, or Memojis

Phone Link cannot show messages if the iPhone’s messages settings are set to not Always “show preview”

Phone Link will not display message conversation history if during use of the app the Bluetooth session disconnects

    Hope this helps.

Then basically, Phone Link supports nothing. What is its purpose? I have never been able to make it do anything at all useful. Some programmer really wasted their time on this one.

I have found the solution in my case.

I set the message app notification to "show preview when unlocked". I waited a while and now the app is staring to receive the messages.

    THIS WORKED FOR ME!!!

Hello, Where is this setting? Can't seem to find on Surface or iPhone.

    Thank you

The app is riddled with problems. It was rushed out in a dysfunctional state, who knows why. Bluetooth connection is finicky and takes multiple tries. Even after you successfully connect, the phone app shows as disconnected. You can send messages but can't receive. All your text history is erased every time you restart the app. No group messaging, images, gifs, or really anything other than basic texting. It reminds me of computer functionality in the late 90s. I cannot understand how something like this was released to the public.

One user reported that changing the messaging setting to "Show preview when unlocked" fixed it. That did not work for me. I've tried adjusting every possible setting, restarting multiple times, reconnecting with Bluetooth multiple times. Nothing works.

Hopefully Microsoft will fix it in the next two to three years.
