windows 11 black screen after login

I know this is an old thread, but my search brought me here. After a week of troubleshooting trying everything I could find on the internet, the whole Bootrec /fixmbr etc and updating drivers as well as everything else, it turned out my wireless network card was to blame, the Bluetooth side of it worked when it felt like it and the wireless part of it still worked fine, but after removing the card no more issue. I've since ordered a new Wireless/Bluetooth PCIe card and have no more issue.

I just replied to this post in case somebody else lands here while troubling shooting and searching the web and this gives you one more thing to check, so maybe check your hardware devices. I have to say, this had my head wrecked for a week, and multiple recovery's later it ended up being a hardware issue and not a software one.

This is ridiculous. I am using my desktop now, to respond as I am having the same problem on my Win 11 laptop. 2nd time now, AFTER WINDOWS UPDATE, restarts to blank screen with cursor and only can get to task manager. Last time (which was last week) the same thing happened and I had to go through several steps to get to an earlier restore point. However, a week later, I ran Windows update and the same thing happened again. Like I said, this is ridiculous. I guess I'll be turning off Win updates for a good while. This is only happening on my Win11 laptop, not my WIn10 desktop. Hummmm.... C'mon Microsoft!

I had this exact issue. I let it sit for 5-10 mins whilst I was reading through this on my phone. Suddenly it flashed to life. I'm on an Acer aspire laptop with ryzen 5 7530u.

Stopping the App Readiness service worked for me. I found the PID for the app readiness process under services (on the left) in task manager, then went to details (also on the left) in task manager and end task on that PID (svchost process). After that, windows explorer and desktop manager started as expected.
