Windows 11 folder keeps reverting back to read only

I have tried CMD checks and fixes. Done a clean boot. Have installed take ownership plug-in. Changed controlled folder access which was set to off. I have replaced the folder with a newly created one and copied the files back into the new one and it has the same issue as the old folder. The folder that is affected is C:\Users\USER\Appdata\Roaming\Vortex\downloads.

I need this folder to not be read only as Vortex cannot function with the folder permissions as they are.

    You keep saying that it is meaningless. We are trying to edit the files on a regular basis only for the edit to be rejected because the file is READ ONLY.

    At least in Win10 there was a workaround to this damn bug. The latest version of Win11 will not accept ANY workarounds.

    There's a difference between "meaningless" and "useless". The item labelled "Read-only (Only applies to files in the folder)" does not indicate that the folder is read-only. It doesn't indicate anything. But it's not useless. That item can be used to set all files in the folder read-only and it can be used to set all files in the folder not read-only. That behavior is unchanged from Windows 10 to Windows 11.

    Let's try to find out what is different and what is the root cause of the problem.

    What type of files are you trying to edit that are ending up read-only? What applications are involved? Where do the files reside (i.e. what is the drive and path)? Does setting all of the files to not read-only fix the issue temporarily or not at all? What are the exact error messages (screenshots are always helpful)?

    Context menu is the right click on your mouse. This is your context menu. RIGHT CLICK

    I cannot get to the Controlled folder access to turn it off. I am logged in as Administrator, yet msg says see IT Dept. Well, I am the IT dept!

    The other John just suggested that you use the command at the link provided to take ownership and reset permissions on the folder in question. It would help if you provided screenshots of the error(s) you see. Otherwise we're just guessing. I don't think your folder has been set read-only, as most people just misunderstand the "Read-only (Only applies to files in the folder)" button. However, it could indeed be a problem of ownership or permissions.

    Did you follow the steps, provided at the link below, to add that item to your right-click menu?

    And then did you right-click the folder in question and select "Take ownership"?

    And once again, I ask...What is the full path of the problem folder?
