How to stop Windows 11 updates forever?

I've noticed there is no option to stop windows updates: There is only a nonsensical pause option. Even though I set updates to OFF it still updates after some time which is totally not what I need. The thing is my hard ware is really old and I can't risk new updates like the one I got now totally screwed my machine, I can't run any programs anymore they take forever to open now. Please help how do I stop these updates from happening?

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You can deactivate the windows update service directly in services .msc, but when deactivating the microsft store system, among others, they stop working without automatic updating.

01: for this, press the shortcut 'Windows + R' and type "services.msc".

02: right-click on “Windows Update” and then go to “Properties”;

03: under “Startup type”, as in the example below, choose the “Disabled” option from the drop-down menu and click “Apply”.

04: finally, restart your computer to complete the procedure and ensure that the search for new updates is disabled.

Caution when disabling windows update is a security risk at your own risk.

    I have an iMac, an iPad and an iPhone. Never had the issues that I have had with my Windows laptop. Microsoft has crashed my computer repeatedly with updates that are not compatible with my laptop. I will never purchase another Microsoft product again. Done with them. I suggest all of you do the same.

    Unfortunately, I need this for work - development purposes.

    Close to retirement, but even so, I'm not ready to buy into the Apple eco-system. Where-as they seem to be more stable, everything costs money.

    I understand. As someone who has worked in both environments, I can tell you Apple may cost more up front, but you can keep your computer running and updated for a long time. My Microsoft laptop cost $1100 in 2020. It is not incompatible with the Windows 11 software and if I can not find a way to stop the updates, I must buy a new laptop. I have been fighting this update issue for more than a year, so basically my computer became obsolete after 2 1/2 years. In contrast, my late 2015 27-inch iMac is still running beautifully.. Each time I get an update notice, Apple runs an analysis to insure compatibility. If it's not compatible, they tell me and do not install. I am not forced into "automatic updates". Eight years is a long time in the computer world. Paid $2000 for my iMac.

    Well I've got a 2004 Mac Mini sitting here, and it's stuck at the last supported OS. Which is fine. If I get follow on work that requires Windows, I'll grab a mac and run VMWare on it. Of course, the VM still has a chance to get hosed by the induhviduals in Redmond, but at least I'm protected on the base hardware.

    Right now, I'm fighting with smart appliances that are dumber than bricks (appliances like a dishwasher, etc.). :)
