How to stop Windows 11 updates forever?

I've noticed there is no option to stop windows updates: There is only a nonsensical pause option. Even though I set updates to OFF it still updates after some time which is totally not what I need. The thing is my hard ware is really old and I can't risk new updates like the one I got now totally screwed my machine, I can't run any programs anymore they take forever to open now. Please help how do I stop these updates from happening?

Hi , Harry.

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You can deactivate the windows update service directly in services .msc, but when deactivating the microsft store system, among others, they stop working without automatic updating.

01: for this, press the shortcut 'Windows + R' and type "services.msc".

02: right-click on “Windows Update” and then go to “Properties”;

03: under “Startup type”, as in the example below, choose the “Disabled” option from the drop-down menu and click “Apply”.

04: finally, restart your computer to complete the procedure and ensure that the search for new updates is disabled.

Caution when disabling windows update is a security risk at your own risk.

    Any of the methods to disable windows update service will not work. All are temporary later the service will restart and consume all my CPU and bandwidth

    Disabling from the service

    this is temporary, the system automatically set it to manual later and start the service

    Disabling from Group policy

    No improvement

    Disabling from regedit

    **** No improvement

    So you mean, no way what ever the measures take to stop windows updates, it resumes to auto/manual update after sometime (even in restart). I really want to stop windows 11 home (version) auto updates.

    That's correct. Commencing with Windows 10, regular updates are and will be the single most crucial feature of Windows, so they cannot be permanently stopped. Even if you succeed in breaking your operating system - as some have done - so that updating no longer works, Microsoft has built-in tools to restore updating. (The rest of the broken operating system is not Microsoft's responsibility.)

    It's important to understand that regular updates are as much a part of Windows as any other part of Windows. So if you're opposed to updates, your path forward is clear: Don't use Windows.
