How to stop Windows 11 updates forever?

I've noticed there is no option to stop windows updates: There is only a nonsensical pause option. Even though I set updates to OFF it still updates after some time which is totally not what I need. The thing is my hard ware is really old and I can't risk new updates like the one I got now totally screwed my machine, I can't run any programs anymore they take forever to open now. Please help how do I stop these updates from happening?

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You can deactivate the windows update service directly in services .msc, but when deactivating the microsft store system, among others, they stop working without automatic updating.

01: for this, press the shortcut 'Windows + R' and type "services.msc".

02: right-click on “Windows Update” and then go to “Properties”;

03: under “Startup type”, as in the example below, choose the “Disabled” option from the drop-down menu and click “Apply”.

04: finally, restart your computer to complete the procedure and ensure that the search for new updates is disabled.

Caution when disabling windows update is a security risk at your own risk.

    Are you an MS apologist? Seriously, read what you just posted. Most of the updates from MS fix THEIR bugs and add new features (more bugs).

    I do accept that there are bugs. Boeing accepts that there are bugs --- that's why you have to reboot the aircraft every 51 days.

    In fact, some of these "stop the update" hacks triggered a bug that forced a feature update on people who tried these hacks. If these people did NOTHING, they wouldn't have been forced a feature update at all.

    That's right, if these people did NOTHING, they wouldn't have triggered the bug that forced that update on them. It's their fault trying these hacks in the first place.

    Some processes require both hours or days to complete and an active Internet connection to function due to external dependencies, such as data or computational resources. Forcing updates on users against their consent is madness. Locking threads won't solve the issue.

    Well, MS itself recommends stopping updates just to pacify its best customers, who fell for MS BS, and spent money on some much tooted feature that MS later dropped without any notice. By stopping updates, they can use what they paid for but lost, just a little bit longer. I'm really bitter about the discontinuation of Mixed Reality. I spent a lot of money on games (Beat Saber, Half Life, etc.), headsets (hundreds of $), cables and cable management, etc.

    So I have disabled Windows updates on my W11 by editing the Registry.

    Open RegEdit and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

    Create a folder named WindowsUpdate. Then create a subfolder in it called AU.

    On the right-hand side of the screen, right-click anywhere. Under the New option, select the option DWORD (32-bit) Value.

    Add new value there and name it “NoAutoUpdate”. Then press Enter to save the changes.

    Then change its value to 1.

    Save and close everything and reboot.

    Your changes will show up in Settings -> Windows Update -> Advanced Options -> Configured Update Policies

    gotcha, never will buy windows again since I don't have control over my system like I want (con of getting apple anyways) and the OS breaks itself ALL THE TIME (cause can't turn off updates). Basically, has decreased my productivity more than being without a computer would #linuxORbust
