How to stop Windows 11 updates forever?

I've noticed there is no option to stop windows updates: There is only a nonsensical pause option. Even though I set updates to OFF it still updates after some time which is totally not what I need. The thing is my hard ware is really old and I can't risk new updates like the one I got now totally screwed my machine, I can't run any programs anymore they take forever to open now. Please help how do I stop these updates from happening?

I am Ivan, I will help you with this.

You can deactivate the windows update service directly in services .msc, but when deactivating the microsft store system, among others, they stop working without automatic updating.

01: for this, press the shortcut 'Windows + R' and type "services.msc".

02: right-click on “Windows Update” and then go to “Properties”;

03: under “Startup type”, as in the example below, choose the “Disabled” option from the drop-down menu and click “Apply”.

04: finally, restart your computer to complete the procedure and ensure that the search for new updates is disabled.

Caution when disabling windows update is a security risk at your own risk.

    bull$hit. And you clearly did not read what I wrote. You want to push a patch on Tuesday - push it. But allow ME, the user, who happens to be running a multi-month soak test on 4 virtual machines with machine critical hardware to decide when to install it. What are you, a Microsoft fan-whatever?

    The fact is, Microsoft pushes this 99% of the time due to some new feature they want everyone to have... at the moment, I have SearchApp.exe filling my hard drive up. What I've learned is it has something to do with cortana. I really don't care. Maybe 1% of an update is useful, but they cover it up with "important security updates." Why don't they just say, "hey, we updated you last month and pushed some bugs and security holes out and we need to fix them?" Think about it.

    I've developed under 6 different operating systems. Only Microsoft has this virus. Microsoft IS the virus.

    Take your computer offline before you run a multi-month test.

    There are plenty of horror stories about safety critical systems running ancient computers and os'es offline.

    The whole world has adapted to this schedule.

    There are plenty of weird IT workarounds --- like boeing 787 needing to reboot every 51 days.

    If you have mission critical stuff to do, then you make a checklist. Checklist number 1 is to take that computer offline. Apparently it's not mission critical for you to make a checklist and then blame others for it.

    NO! You can not! Not with windows 11, I've tried disabling in Services, I've tried turning it off in Regedit, nothing works. In fact earlier today I disabled updates in Services because it was nagging me to do an update, ran a few errands cam back 3hrs later, my pc was updated, restarted and lost a ton work I was doing on a research paper!! I'm soooooo sick of this.
