Hi, I'm using my desktop PC as a makeshift router due to my current cirucmstances.
I have an issue with the hotspot randomly turning off, despite my phone being connected to it. I can't seem to figure out a proper reason for this. I've seen many tutorials but they all mention the standard solution of turning off power saving, then disallowing the PC to turn off the device in device manager, but none have worked. The PC doesn't lose internet connection, is still running and has a device connected, but it still randomly shuts off the hotspot.
Another question would be if there were any way to keep the mobile hotspot always on? As in, have the hotspot turn itself on after wake from sleep, hibernation or shut down. Theoretically I could have a batch script turn it on, but I think that only applies to starting from shutdown, not the other 2 sleep states.
My PC is currently running windows 10 build 19045. The motherboard has wifi built in, but I also have an external wifi dongle attached to the two ports on the back.

I also think there might be some correlation with your school's network. Additionally, they may have configured limitations or restrictions on your network. As I told you previously, these tests should be repeated on a different network or a home network.
When the mobile hotspot turned off, was the internet connection on the PC active?
Please note that the mobile hotspot can only work if the internet connection on the PC remains active all the time otherwise the mobile hotspot will turn off.
I thought I disabled the setting where the hotspot would turn off if it were inactive?
Either way, it was being used by 2 devices, my phone and laptop when the connection just suddenly shut off.
Since you do not have visual control of the router, you cannot know if this is due to an interruption in the internet line of your school network or something else. Whenever the problem occurs you should look at the network icon at the bottom right on your PC's taskbar if it appears regular or shows a crossed out globe. Please note that even normal maintenance or upgrades of the school network can cause brief interruptions in service and therefore the mobile hotspot shutting down.
In order to determine whether this problem is due to the school network, to Windows or in particular to your PC, it is necessary to connect to a different network, for example to your home network, and check whether the problem recurs in the same way or not.
Otherwise, you can try connecting your laptop to the school network, configure the mobile hotspot on the laptop and then connect to the hotspot with your phone, then check whether the behavior is the same or not.
I don't have an alternate connection to test, I'll try using my laptop as the router instead.
I don't have time to test this for the next day, so I'll test it in 2 and give my update then.
