Hi, I'm using my desktop PC as a makeshift router due to my current cirucmstances.
I have an issue with the hotspot randomly turning off, despite my phone being connected to it. I can't seem to figure out a proper reason for this. I've seen many tutorials but they all mention the standard solution of turning off power saving, then disallowing the PC to turn off the device in device manager, but none have worked. The PC doesn't lose internet connection, is still running and has a device connected, but it still randomly shuts off the hotspot.
Another question would be if there were any way to keep the mobile hotspot always on? As in, have the hotspot turn itself on after wake from sleep, hibernation or shut down. Theoretically I could have a batch script turn it on, but I think that only applies to starting from shutdown, not the other 2 sleep states.
My PC is currently running windows 10 build 19045. The motherboard has wifi built in, but I also have an external wifi dongle attached to the two ports on the back.

I also think there might be some correlation with your school's network. Additionally, they may have configured limitations or restrictions on your network. As I told you previously, these tests should be repeated on a different network or a home network.
I've performed the tests and it seems like there is no difference... I think maybe it's because it's not a dongle but just an antenna?
Simply post a screenshot of the System Information page.
Let me know the results of the tests I suggested.
So you connect to the internet via network cable with your PC, right? Is the behavior of the mobile hotspot the same when you use the external USB WiFi dongle and when you use the internal wireless network card?
I'm connected to the internet via an ethernet connection, and I have an external wifi dongle. I don't know how windows handles the hotspot system, so it could be that windows doesn't even use the external dongle...
Try temporarily disabling or disconnecting the USB WiFi dongle from your PC, re-enable the mobile hotspot using the internal wireless network card and see if the situation improves. You can also do the opposite test, keeping the internal wireless network card disabled and using the external USB WiFi adapter.
I'll give that a try. The dongle isn't a USB one though, it's attached via these two round ports on the back of the motherboard.
