Alt + tab no longer switches to last window in Windows 11

Hi all,

One of the most useful shortcuts I use all the time is not working for me on my new laptop with Windows 11. I used to use ALT + TAB to switch between the current window and the last window I used. Now if I use it it switches between the current window and the first open window (not the most recent). How can I get it so it switches between the two most recently used?

    Wow, I can't believe they took this away. I didn't want to switch to a mac at work because it wouldn't have my familiar keystrokes but if I don't get them in Windows either, it might be time.

    MacOS will indeed give you the good old MS Alt-Tab experience, with the Command-Tab key sequence.

    I started using MacOS OSX when the first full non-beta version was released in 2001. Mostly because I wanted to see what the experience would be like as a long term UNIX user. I never looked back and quickly switched to it full time for my personal use and eventually for work.

    Since so much of what we do nowadays is web based and since MS Office on the Mac is fully compatible with Office for Windows, now seems like a safe time to move over.

    Unless you rely on any Windows-only applications, that is. If you do, you can always run Windows 11 for ARM as a virtual machine on your nice new Mac.

    So much of what we do nowadays is desktop OS agnostic, that reliance on Windows is plummeting fast.

    That's Microsoft for you. They did the same thing to Office. They didn't just remove critical features that actually kept people using Office instead of alternatives. You used to be able to link Excel workbooks into Word and data would be updated in the doc when you updated the worksheet. Now the embedded worksheets lose all formatting or are removed altogether. Months of runaround with techs. They acknowledged the issues, refused to fix them, and didn't bother removing them. I ended up with a free year of Office365, but issue still hasn't been resolved 4 years later.

    Okay this has been frustrating me for a little bit. I finally figured out the new setting.

    1. Open Windows "Settings" by pressing Windows + I.
    2. Search for "Multitasking Settings".
    3. Expand "Snap windows"
    4. Uncheck "Show my snapped windows when I hover over taskbar apps, in Task View, and when I press Alt+Tab"
    5. [Recommended] Change "Show tabs from apps when snapping or pressing Alt+Tab" to "Don't show tabs"
