How to re-enable the "Expand to Open Folder" option?

I am 50 year old, am computer science engineer and have 25 year experience in managing worldwide IT projects: I'm not surprised that Microsoft doesn't care at all 😁

I have the same problem and it is extremely frustrating, this is a core Windows experience I rely on daily basis that is simply not working anymore in Windows 11.

I have "Expand to current folder" enabled, but if I navigate into any subfolder in Downloads/Videos/Documents/Desktop etc in Explorer, then the path is not expanded in the left treeview.

As you can see below, I'm in a Documents->Personal->Kytara subfolder, but on the left nothing is expanded.

Note I also really hate that new "Start backup" that was added to the folder path.

It's almost certainly a coding issue that only the software developers can fix. I mean, there may be a solution buried in the registry, but given this just cropped up after decades of use, only the coders would know the correct settings. Either way, it's all on MS.

Pre-update, when I clicked on a pinned folder, the master folder (i.e., the pinned folder) would expand in the details pane(?). It would also expand to show all subfolders in the bottom section of the navigation pane. I suspect this is what this thread is about. Whether it is or not, this is annoying. The right-click option to expand to current folder only shows up when I right-click in the bottom of the navigation pane.

At any rate, this should be a trivial fix in the next release. I just hope the developers get the task added to the fix list.

I just noticed that the poster name now gets numbered in entries. Weird.
