Clipboard problems (can not copy/paste) in Windows 11
Clipboard stops to working in random time during the working day. Can't copy/paste, clipboard manager is empty. No any special actions done before this: it just stops to work in regular routine. I just have to restart Windows and hope to work for a next few hours.
It's make me crazy to restart my computer few times a day. I have complicated environment with VM's, Docker, IDE, SSH Terminals and should restart it JUST BECAUSE SUDDENLY I HAVE NO CLIPBOARD.
HOW IT'S EVEN POSSIBLE TO BREAK THE CLIPBOARD??? I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT JOKE
Windows 11 is broken! Please fix it!
I know here a lot of people with same issue. Please comment: let's make this problem visible to MS.
Please no generic advises about restart explorer, dism/sfc, troubleshooting and reinstalling my OS.
All of this was tried many times and doesn't solve this deep Windows bug.
My system information:
Windows 11 22H2 (x64), build 22621.2715, all the updates installed (Nov 2023)
Ryzen 7 5800H, 32 Gb RAM

UPDATES:
SOLUTION #1 (JUNE 2024): confirmed and tested
As I noticed before, clipboard issue was always after my computer was left for some time switched on. During this my screensaver was shown and SOME BACKGROUND TASKS performed. This caused the issue 100% of time! I was trying to find and disable background tasks - but it doesn't help.
So, here's my solution: don't let PC to get idle. I've installed Caffeinated utility and keep my PC always awake, even when I'm go out for a few hours or night. AND IT WORKS! For 1 month already no more Clipboard Problem, no any restart! So I recommend to try this method.
SOLUTION #2 (doubtful: works for some)
Discovered by Glen Decker, instructions by Kim-LarryPapp
I hope it can help shine a light. You can follow the steps below. Some things to note, I've placed keystrokes in square brackets to indicate the keyboard touches, and the 'WIN' key refers to the Windows Key on the keyboard. (e.g. [ctrl+alt+del])
- [Win + R] to open the Run Window
- [services.msc] => [enter]
- Click the 'Name' column heading to be sure the items are listed in alphabetical, A to Z.
- Scroll down to find the item listed 'Connected Devices Platform Service' (Служба платформы подключенных устройств)
- Double-Click the item to open the properties window.
- Change the 'Start-up Type' in the drop-down to 'Disabled'. Mine was set to 'Automatic (Delayed)'.
- Reboot
UPDATE FROM SEPTEMBER 2024:
From the moment I discovered solution #1 I have no issues with clipboard at all - for 3 months in a row!
Just using Caffeinated utility or PowerToys Awake - yes, not fix, but stable workaround. At least I can do my job while Microsoft ignores this issue.

2024-06-18T10:17:02+00:00 I agree with the OP. Windows 11 seems to be a mess of issues if you upgrade. If you have the option, buy it installed.
After installing, at least for me, not only did my clipboard decide it was useless, but so did my Windows key, my graphic display settings, and my task bar... I could only run programs from the Task Manager.
It seems they're two different issues! After fixing the above, my clipboard would still fail after a little use and it would subsequently break the windows explorer address bar.
To fix it, I just turned off the new features for the clipboard. As a developer, I know that most bugs come from features that were added and not tested well. After realizing they were different issues, I asked myself, what else did they 'help' with; it was the Windows Clipboard History.
They're trying to save all the info that you have copied for easy access, but didn't consider complex OLE object storage, at least that's what it seems. The storage of simple notepad text is fine, but as time goes, the history fills, and we copy more complex info (e.g. pictures, excel data, ms access table data, files, etc.), the history function fails and the clip can't restart.
To fix it, rather, remove the error, simply turn off the Windows Clip History (System > Clipboard > Turn Off Clipboard History (then reboot)).
Damn you Bill...

This is not a solution, but one can be found at the on Page 6. -

2024-05-18T12:03:53+00:00 I have 3 pcs, 1 DT & 2 LTs, on windows 10. Never have problem,. Not so with my windows 11 DT. Finally installed a restart app on task bar since when cut/paste pblm **** my power options also become inoperable. Then had to manual shutdown, which is very difficult on my DT. At least the restart app shuts down all open pgms first. I set it for 5 sec after click, so just a really anoying issue that has been around for several years on windows 11. Again never have this problem with windows 10 OS on my other computers.

2024-05-16T14:10:19+00:00 I'm on Windows 10 and pretty much have the exact same problem... one tell-tale sign that it's about to happen to me though is if I let me computer go into Sleep mode. But the random times that it disables is way more annoying, obviously, since it's unexpected.
The only way to get the feature back is a restart of the machine.

2024-05-16T09:36:23+00:00 Hello Roman, I can assure you that Microsoft is working on the problem. I have over 47 years in IT and I have been working with Level 3 and Engineering on the issue since March 2024. I suggest you do not go back to Windows 10 as you may still have the problem. I too have done numerous re-installs of Windows and Microsoft Office and it still fails. I did find a work around until they find a fix, and it's been working for me. My copy and paste usually fails after 24 hours so I have to do a re-boot to restore the function. I have enabled a task to reboot the P/C at 5am every day and that seems to work just fine.
Her are the steps to schedule a task for a re-boot. I also have dual monitors and that is not the issue. I have done numerous testing with Level 3 gathering information for them, I also switched to Microsoft Office 365 and the problem still occurred. Hope this helps.
To schedule an automatic reboot for your PC, you can use the Task Scheduler feature in Windows. Here are the steps to set it up:
- Press the Windows key to open the Start menu.
- Type “Task Scheduler” in the search field and select the corresponding result.
- In the Task Scheduler, click on “Create task”.
- Provide a descriptive name for the task.
- Go to the “Triggers” tab and click “New” to create a new trigger.
- Select “On a schedule”, choose the “Daily” radio option, and set the desired time for the reboot.
- In the “Actions” tab, click “New”.
- Select “Start a program” and enter the following:
- Program/Script: %SystemRoot%\system32\shutdown.exe
- Arguments: -r -f -t 10
- Optionally, go to the “Conditions” tab and select “Start the task only if the computer is idle” to ensure the system restarts only when idle.
- Click “OK” to create the scheduled task.
From now on, your Windows PC will automatically reboot according to the configured schedule. Before restarting, it will display a message, allowing active users to save their work. If you ever want to disable the scheduled restart, simply find the task in Task Scheduler, right-click on it, and select "Disable"
I switch off my laptop every day and usually don't have it on for more than 8-10 hours. But the problem is still there and can even happen already within the 1st hour I boot it up.
