Installation Failure for 2023-10 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 22H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5031356) 0x8007000D

I Have the same problem. I have even tried to install it manually by downloading it from MS site and the install.

I totally agree - MS needs to sort this. I followed the suggested MS solution and did a complete DSIM Restore Health successfully but then only faced the same problem and error with the download. I have System Restored now to where I was and have paused Windows Updates for a couple of weeks to see if they get this sorted !!!

Gborn, thanks for your input. I've stopped the updates for a week and hopefully, they will solve the problem with a complete fix to kb5031356. As I previously mentioned my windows update successfully installed another update the same day as the failed update and another update on 10-12, both worked fine so I do not believe the problem is with my windows update. kb5031356 worked on my laptop win 10 ver 22H2, which is the same version on my HP desktop Pavillion where it failed. The only real difference is that the desktop is not compatible with win 11 but, the laptop is.

Hi, I am unable to install latest Windows 10 22H2 Cumulative Update, with the error 0x8007000D. I have tried downloading the KB from Microsoft Update Catalog and run manually but I am getting this error as well. Has anyone else faced this issue and does anyone have a solution for this?

Microsoft has now confirmed this bug and shipped a KIR solution, to roll back the buggy fix (just the component that caused the issue) for affected non managed Windows systems.

But there is something missing: For managed systems, a msi installer to apply the necessary group policy hasn't been mentioned nor linked. @Microsoft moderators: Somebody shall write a remark (on KB article and also on the Windows 10 health status article The October 2023 security update might fail to install), why managed systems are not covered. Has something changed in KIR? I've escalated it the the moderators.

Addendum: On October 17, 2023, Microsoft has extended the article The October 2023 security update might fail to install - and the msi installer for admx files needed for managed environments has been added.

Getting around that time microsoft should start firing people for incompetence. this is just sad
