Hi,

I'm really upset of the new address bar because I can't drag and drop anymore files to parent folder like in old file explorer address bar

Can you fix the problem in a close future update or tell me how to change this back to old version (exist in windows 11 file explorer)

The new address bar is above the tools bar (New - Cut - Copy - etc), the old one is bellow

Windows for home | Windows 11 | Files, folders, and storage

    Shawn,
I've lost count of the number of times that I've tried to drop a file on the address bar. It was certainly enough to make it worth searching for, and finding, this particular thread.

Oddly enough I can't help wondering how many months of development into the old File Explorer was flushed just to churn out a new one whose U/I is consistent with other O/S apps. Seems like a poor choice. As was my recent choice to finally update to Windows 11.

    Hi Shawn,

I would like to agree with Yoame. This new feature is a very frustrating and time-consuming update that has been sent out. In order to move files I have to open explorer in a separate window to make these moves.

Also, not having the New Folder button as a quick link in the toolbar is frustrating and also more time consuming now that it is a drop down. I used to be able to hit the folder button and automatically being typing. Now it is a longer process to click new, then select folder. It may seem minimal but these are the little changes that take forever to get used to, while hoping these will be corrected on future updates.

Please send the feedback to have this fixed in the future, or at least where users can choose to disable which new features have been included in the updates. The ability to pick and choose the features would be amazing.

    Thanks

Agree, I was surprised of the change myself. It makes it harder to interact with folders in explorer. When faced with setbacks like this, I try to take a step back and look at it from a different angle, and try to use what we still have available, to solve the issue at hand. Remember that there is more than one way to perform most actions. The only optional way I could see right now was to add an additional step and do this:

Let's say I browse to a folder in explorer and want to drag the folder in the address bar to the desktop, as a shortcut link. In the new Win11 Explorer, dragging from address bar is no longer available, so we can no longer do it this way... ☹️

    Image

So that option is not available to us any more.
So what we can still do is move up to the parent folder's contents by going up one folder (Alt+up-arrow).

    Image

By doing this, the "Source folder" we want to use is no longer in the address bar, but in the parent folders contents. Right drag the folder to the desktop(or other destination) and release. The context menu will pop-up, and we can now select the option we want to perform. In this case we are making a short-cut to the folder on the desktop, so we choose that.

Now we have our folder shortcut.

If you have two tabs open, you can also drag the folder in the first tab, to the other tab, and once it switches to it, you can drop it into that folder. Alternatively, you can open two explorer windows if desired, and drag between them.

I do agree that I used that feature a lot and wish they could add it back, but we make due with what we got. We did get some cool new features in explorer when they added tabs, but we also lost a few features a lot may use. I'm hoping they keep improving the UI and eventually add the option back in, but for now we have an alternative to do what we need to do and move forward.

    Hope this helps a little....
    Regards.

This is absolutely ridiculous. I tried a number of times and wondered what was wrong with me. Let's hope it gets restored soon!

Between this and the change in no longer having the downloads bar at the bottom, it's really messing with my workflow. Thanks windows.
