Disappearance of Windows 11 Taskbar Icons after Switching Virtual Desktops

In Windows 11's built-in virtual desktop feature, there is a high probability that icons of active applications on the current desktop may not be displayed when switching between different virtual desktops. The icons only appear when I click on the respective application. I have attempted to resolve the issue through restarts and using Sfc and Dism for repairs, but the problem persists. An essential configuration to note is that the taskbar is set to display windows only from the current desktop.

    A common approach when using Windows: Simply collect all possible workarounds for the many, many errors one needs to live with and consider them "fixed". But it's not and we need to repeately blame MS for their bad quality.

    Any news on this one? I have the update installed and it's still the same. Mximixing and minimizing the affected applications works for me to restore the icons, but win+d not.

    It's quite annoying.

    Would really like to hear some acknowledgement from Microsoft on this issue, which I realize affects the small number of us who use virtual desktops, but that's a crucial feature for me in organizing my work and I can't imagine what I would do without it.

    I have noticed that the minimize/restore trick only works if the window is actually minimized. That is, if you press Win+D and a window was already minimized and its icon is missing, the icon will not reappear. You have to restore that window manually to fix it.

    All in all this is an annoying and distracting bug that damages the user experience of Windows, and it's been around for at least a couple of updates, including the major 23H2.

    The win+d hack only works when the application is maximized (either on the front or on the back). If the app is minimized it does not work.

    Shocking bug. Very annoying and very noticeable. It is really distracting.
