Removing the animation's worked for me, but it's not very user friendly. If i have similar virtual desktops it's hard to know without transition effects in which desktop i am.

In Windows 11's built-in virtual desktop feature, there is a high probability that icons of active applications on the current desktop may not be displayed when switching between different virtual desktops. The icons only appear when I click on the respective application. I have attempted to resolve the issue through restarts and using Sfc and Dism for repairs, but the problem persists. An essential configuration to note is that the taskbar is set to display windows only from the current desktop.

2024-03-15T09:15:47+00:00 In the search box type "animation effects." Slide the slider for "Animations effects" to off. I still have transparency effects still enabled. This has completely solved my issue and I was having a horrible time with this issue before disabling. It hasn't happened one single time since changing that setting. You will also notice a significant speed increase in changing desktops.
Turning off the animation effects, whilst negatively impacting the user experience, does seem to have the biggest impact for me. Since I did this (with ExplorerPatcher installed), I haven't seen the problem. So a combination of these two things seems to be a reasonable solution until Microsoft get their finger out and fix the bug. Cheers!!

2024-03-15T09:03:43+00:00 Switching Animations effects off didn't help me. Today one of the icon was half visible. That makes me think underlying issue is that icon is drawn too far below visible area of the screen.
I fantasize that someone who can fix this is reading what we write here.

It's a pitiful compromise though. I like the animation effects but in the end I like knowing at a glance where my open apps are more.
