Defrag runs constantly

Win10 64. Defrag runs constantly, grinding away at my hard drives for no reason. The both drives are 0% fragmented, except for system reserved files which are 40% fragmented and defrag will not touch them. The Defrag is OFF, how do I stop the system running defrag every time the PC is idle for more than 60 seconds?? How do I defrage the system files which need defragging?

I'm referring to how your computer is crashing and has to be restarted, usually multiple times a day. It's either you or someone is force restarting by switching off the power or pressing the reset button, or the power supply is faulty.

    Host Process For Windows Tasks is a valid Windows process. If you right click the process and select Properties, it should show the location as C:\Windows\System32\taskhostw.exe

    You can use an app like Process Explorer to see what tasks it is hosting.

    hohohoho - nearly Christmas. Anyway, the defrag problem has disappeared, only to be replaced by 'host process for windows tasks' running again and again. I don't think it is a valid process, as I can right click on it and close it, and it does not give me the usual warnings. Is it a real windows process or something iffy?

    My login, even with administrator privileges is only local, does this have a bearing on the issues?

    I wouldn't think so.

    It appears you had "Hide Windows entries" selected in Autoruns options. Make sure both "Hide Windows entries" and "Hide Microsoft entries" are not selected and you'll see the defragsvc entry.

    If there are any problems, upload and share an Autoruns log on your OneDrive. When Autoruns has finished scanning, press Ctrl + S and save the log.
