Windows 11 23H2 installation fails

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to update my Lenovo Thinkpad T490 to Windows 11. Last resort before going to some kind of paid solution is to throw this out to the community. Here's a summary of what I have tried already.

Windows has been not-so-gently nagging me to upgrade from Windows 10 to Windows 11 for at least 18 months and assures me that my computer can run it. There is about 32 GB free space on the hard drive. Drivers are up to date.

When I use the Update function from the Settings the update downloads and I am prompted to reboot. During the reboot, I can see the screen indicating the progress of the installation, but in the end the system is still in Windows 10. The message below is displayed in the Windows Update screen "There were some problems installing updates, but we’ll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x8007001f)"

When I use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant the update also downloads successfully, but the computer still boots back into Windows 10. The only difference is that the message in the Windows Update page in settings now references the code 0xc00000f0.

Similarly, if I use the media creation tool to create a .ISO file, the update downloads, but the installation still fails.

I have also tried updating from a clean reboot, removing the laptop from the docking station to ensure that no external devices (other than Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard) are connected, and uninstalled the McAfee antivirus program that my ISP provides.

I have also tried all of the suggested fixes and scans from this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Pz52tUWNPU.

I'm out of ideas. If anyone can suggest further steps, I'd love to hear them.

There are a lot of unwanted/invalid profiles. Download and run del_unwanted_profiles.reg. Click Yes to confirm.

(As you've already backed up the key to "Profilebad.hive", go ahead and run the above registry fix without any hesitation.)

Re-run the Windows setup now.

During the testing period WDV must be turned off after each WDV crash.

The computer will repetitively crash until the misbehaving driver is uninstalled or uninstalled and reinstalled.

If there is no immediate crash then post verifier / querysettings results.

The tool can then be restarted with additional or different customized test settings.

It may take approximately 48 hours to use the different customized tests.

Please turn off clean boot during WDV testing.

Restart clean boot for the next upgrade attempt.

Here's a screenshot of the HD Sentinel overview that includes the left pane.

Should WDV run for 48 hrs continuously, i.e. computer left on overnight? Or is it 48 hours cumulatively?

Also, I have continued to use a clean boot while trying to sort out these problems. Should I enable some of the programs that I would typically load on start up to test if their drivers are causing problems?

For HD Sentinel the left column ordinarily displays the disk drive make/model.

If possible please include this in the images.

For Windows Driver Verifier (WDV) BSOD plan to boot into safe mode and run one or more of these ACP commands to turn off the tool:

    verifier /reset

    verifier /bootmode resetonbootfail

Make a new restore point before starting the tool.

Windows Driver Verifier can be started with these test settings:

    a) test all non-Microsoft drivers

    b) test no Microsoft drivers

    c) start the testing with the three customized tests in the Ten Forums link

Plan to run the tool for approximately 48 hrs with various customized tests.

If there is no immediate BSOD then open ACP and copy and paste:

    verifier /querysettings

Post a share link into the newest post.

For any BSOD post a new V2 share link into the newest post.

After testing for problematic drivers plan to delete a problematic user profile.

Then plan the next upgrade attempt using the prior settings: clean boot, without internet, detached non-windows drives, and detached non-essential hardware.

Here are screenshots of the HD Sentinel overview, temperature, and SMART tabs.

Here are links to the outputs of the command line requests for drivers, net users, and SID.

I have read the info regarding Windows Driver Verification. Should I also run this, or wait for your comments re: the most recently posted material?

The last two lines of the above post show the error codes that I see when attempting to do the update using either the Windows Update Assistant or Windows Update in Settings, respectively. Not sure what to do with this (if anything). There is no mention of these codes in the link re: WDV.
