How to fix Windows 11 saying i'm not connected to the internet but apps and browsers connect and work?
Windows 11 update is not working saying "We couldn't connect to the update service. We'll try again later, or you can check now. If it still doesn't work, make sure you're connected to the Internet." (I checked and the windows update service is running), I tried the windows troubleshooter for network and internet and it says "Looks like you aren't connected to the internet." but all apps and browsers connect to internet fine. Today I tried a repair install of the new 23H2 update from the ISO and no luck with that, the troubleshooter and windows update still say no connection to internet. What now?

2024-06-07T11:45:18+00:00 TLDR:
Edit the registry entry:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\ActiveWebProbeHost
Explanation:
After some investigation, I found the following
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/networking/ncsi/ncsi-overview
The event log shows the probe (that updates the indicator) is failing, the reason given (in the above guide) is:
"... HTTP response 200 is received but doesn’t have the text file connecttest.txt in the response payload, "
I confirmed (using postman) that I do indeed get a 200 response but the payload is diverted to a bosch site.
Has this probe site been hacked?
Anyway, by changing the probe URL as above I fixed this problem

Tried all the solutions so far, no joy - nothing more than temporary respite
