Hi

I write this in english, to enlarge the potential community.

Windows Update, I get error 0x80070002 when the systems tries to install Windows 11 Version 22H2.

This problem is going on for a long time now.

I tried everything I can found on the internet.

  • setting the time, all good,
  • Deleting the SoftwareDistribution directory,
  • Running scan, and DSIM, all good no errors,
  • Windows update troubleshooter, tells me:

Check for Windows Update issues Detected:

In troubleshooting report it says:

  • check for widows update issues // Resolve Windows Update issue Completed

Glad it's resolved, albeit it took around 10 attempts :)

You may re-enable the startup items and services. Backup the current set of drivers using DISM, to a folder named c:\drivers_final_2023.

If Device Manager doesn't show any items with the yellow exclamation mark, then no need to install any more drivers.

For the Windows Security issue, please start a new thread and share the link to the new thread here. Will reply to that.

Regards,

Thanks for the input, no resolution yet.

All steps suggested worked out well:

Untinstalling Norting AND use the removal tool from norton site

disable all non ms services with msconfig, all good

    deleted the $Windows .~BT Directory

installed the new BIOS and did several reboots.

started again as admin the setup.exe on the mounted ISO file.

    Unfortunately same situation,

... Making sure you are ready for installing now,

The window just closes without any notification or error message

    Still no Rollback,

Here is the Panther. I renamed the old one to Panther_old.

I also ran again the FRST and added the latest FRST and Addition log files

Hope this gets us a step closer. Thanks so far for everything

I wanted to check if the Windows Defender is switched on, however when I check Window Security, I get an empty window? Does this indicate something

    The problem is this:

Description: Faulting application name: SetupHost.exe, version: 10.0.22621.1, time stamp: 0xdac8cfb7

Faulting module name: appraiser.dll, version: 10.0.22621.1, time stamp: 0x792f6417

    Exception code: 0xc0000005

    Fault offset: 0x000000000003018d

    Faulting process id: 0x27a4

    Faulting application start time: 0x01da2cf48cca1b18

    Faulting application path: C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\SetupHost.exe

    Faulting module path: C:$WINDOWS.~BT\Sources\appraiser.dll

    1. Please uninstall Norton and then use the Norton Removal Tool from their website. See Download and run the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool for Windows.

Once you remove Norton, Defender will enable automatically.

You can reinstall Norton later on.

    1. Disable all 3rd party services using msconfig.exe. See How to perform a clean boot in Windows - Microsoft Support.
    2. Delete the folder "C:$WINDOWS.~BT"
    3. If available, install the latest BIOS update from the manufacturer's site. Your BIOS release date is 20210521000000.000000+000

Once done, download the Windows 11 23H2 ISO, mount it, and run setup.exe.

Post fresh Panther and Rollback logs if needed.

(There is a leftover Avira ELAM driver. If the setup doesn't succeed, we'll remove the Avira driver using FRST.)

    Thanks,

Did the next steps with FRST

    Regarding AV Products,

I used to have TotalAV, however switched it off, and should not be on the machine anymore. I checked the installed Apps and cannot find anything related to TotalAV or Avira. In the programfiles (x86) there is no such directory TotalAV, however there is a Avira, which was my AV tool I used in the past. Avira was a free AV before.

I bought Norton360, which is the one I want to use since 2 years now. For the installation I usually switch it off for 5 hours, not to get blocked

I noticed once that the Windows Defender was switched off, and I tried to fix it, however it looks like this was done by Norton360.

Not sure if Windows Defender should also run if I use Norton360.

I uploaded files FRST and Addition, here is the link: https://1drv.ms/f/s!At3helIxGZsEknlHW5PQcVhJDUtO?e=2FbJJf

Thanks. Please let me know which antivirus products are active on your system.

The log shows these three AV products are currently registered.

The crash info (it could be an ACCESS_VIOLATION error) hasn't been logged in the setupact.log file. Running the Farbar Scanner might provide more info.
