Hi Frank,

If you wish to fix Windows Security, please start a new thread and post the following logs. Post the link to the new thread here.

Step 1:

Step 2:

  • Download defender_diag.bat. Right-click on the file, click Properties, Unblock, and OK. Run the batch file as administrator.

(The Batch file queries Defender-related settings/Policies and outputs the results to a log file named defender.log. Upload this log to your OneDrive and share the link here.)

Those entries have no significance. Those entries show up in my system as well. You'll see a lot of Not Found entries for any operation you do. Usually, most of those entries have no significance.

You may try this if possible.

Download this REG file and save it to a folder named c:\reg\

Launch AdvancedRun (from Nirsoft) and start cmd.exe as TrustedInstaller.

In the TrustedInstaller Command Prompt, run:

  • reg.exe import c:\reg\securityhealth.reg
  • exit

This restores some essential registry keys used by Defender.

    Hi Ramesh

My Daughter's Vaio runs Security fine with Norton so I know its not that. I have a Citrix plug in that will not uninstall other than that the installed programs are pretty much the same. I will keep an eye on this and see if Rob's batch file reveals the issue. Services.msc cannot start the Security Service in both cases which I always thought pointed to malware. However neither rmalwarebytes or Norton's deep guard have found anything !

I will not be doing a fresh instal of Windows 11 on the main 1TB SSD even though I know this fixes the issue as it would take forever to reinstall all my programs.

Your on going help is very much appreciated.

    Hi Robo4112,

Norton is/was the common factor between your case and Frank's case, and I know you uninstalled Norton (from your 1st thread). Let's see if the latest platform update is installed on your system.

    Download defender_diag.bat from GitHub.

Right-click on the downloaded file, click Properties, Unblock, and OK.

Run the batch file as administrator.

(The Batch file queries Defender-related settings/Policies and outputs the results to a log file named defender.log. Upload this log to your OneDrive and share the link here.)

    Hi Ramesh,

I was out for a couple of days. Hope you had some good quality time over Xmas too.

This thread got created as a split from my original one on the "Windows security not starting and only displaying the Shield Icon",

you supported me with getting my Lenovo upgraded to Windows 11 23H2 the last couple of weeks, with excellent support from you, thanks for that.

This is the only remaining challenge.

I followed this thread too and you advised Frank, who seems to have the same issue. Does it make sense for me to follow the same steps? I did not get any further feedback on my original thread from you or Paul: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_11-security/windows-security-windows-only-shows-shield-icon-on/91027a3e-7b59-457f-8134-90a648334b48 Please advise if you can too support me here, and in which thread we should process this.

Thanks in advance. Currently the situation is that I cannot start the Windows Security, it comes with an error

So something else installed on this laptop must be the issue right?

Or am I underestimating the problem?

SecurityHealthService should start whether or not a 3rd party AV is installed. So, it's not Norton (if that's what you meant) that causes the issue, IMO.
