Why Does Windows 10/11 Copy and Paste Stop Working After A While?

For the last few months my Copy/Paste will stop working after I've been logged-on for awhile. If I log off and back on (no Restart, though), it will start working again... for awhile, that is. It was happening on Windows 10, so I went ahead and upgraded to Windows 11, hoping it would fix the problem, but it didn't.

I've looked through other postings, but most of them involve a Restart, which certainly works but so does a simple log off/log on. I generally don't log out at the end of the day, just lock it. Does anyone have a solution other than creating a whole new profile?

    Multiple monitors on a Lenovo Legion 5 laptop. Windows 11. Same issue.

    Hi Just checking in to see if Microsoft level 3 support has been able to do anything for you? I've had the same problem for YEARS. I'm running a Lenovo Thinkpad with dual monitors.

    One interesting note. I have found that copy paste will stop working for me and 100 percent of the time there are certain applications it will work and certain applications it will not work. For example, when my copy paste stops working I cannot copy out of sql management studio comment excel, command line (CMD). This is all very small text that I'm trying to copy. I also am unable to copy and paste files through Windows Explorer.

    When this happens I CAN copy/paste out of notepad, notepad++, text from web pages (Chrome), etc.

    It's Interesting how the copy/paste seems to break for all Microsoft applications/Windows functions, but at the same time works fine in other applications.

    Good call, i have seen behaviour similar to this too!

    i am guessing apps like EXCEL, visual studio etc use their own copy function because they store extra items in the COPY when compared to notepad.

    This is a guess as to why, but i have not investigated.

    i have however seen what you are seeing.

    Many of us have a dual monitor setup, it looks like many of us are probably using integrated Intel graphics as well. I wonder if it is the Intel drivers that are the problem? I was using HP OEM Intel drivers but just upgraded to the latest Intel drivers, my clipboard issues have come back, but nearly as bad as originally (prior to the Cafeinated fix).

    I found this solution on other threads. It has fixed most issues with Windows 11 stability, including clipboard issues and video issues (after screen lock/unlock). There are a few apps but this one is free and works well.

    I had my PC on performance mode and never sleep, but for some reason this app has fixed my problems. Honestly, not sure what this app does, but it definitely has slowed my rebooting to once a week (from several times a day, at times).
