Windows 11 File Explorer - focus jumps to address bar when creating new folder

This one's a fresh Windows installation with nothing but Microsoft Windows update drivers.

By the way I pay a subscription for microsoft 365. I contacted them this morning to raise their awareness about this thread.

The MS support for customer is bad, even for paying customers. Waiting time was 1 hour and 30 minutes. 144 persons in line.

When is Microsoft going to fix this problem? It's been going on for over a year and getting worse with new updates. In Windows 11 23H2 this constantly happens and you cannot paste a name to a new folder as windows immediately opens the search bar. This is occurring when double clicking on a file such as a PDF to open and Windows opens the search bar instead of the default application for the file type.

Same experience here, very frustrating. Has anyone noticed that in older versions of windows we could create a folder with one click. Now it is two (menu or right click method). Changes that introduce a loss of productivity astound me. This situation is crying out for a toolbar > customise option, so we can add our own shortcut commands, so we can ignore MS offerings and add useful items to the toolbar.

I've not managed to fix this permanently yet, but I've somehow come across a bit of a hack where if you create a new folder using right click instead of the + New button, it doesn't redirect you to the address bar and you can name the folder straight away.

I created and named a few folders this way, then I forgot I was using the right-click method and used the + New button by accident, and it didn't redirect to the address bar and appears to be fixed?

Very annoying glitch though!

UPDATE

Unfortunately, the solution described below was temporary. It worked for about a week for me, at which point I decided to share it here, but the issue returned shortly after that. It just blows my mind that Microsoft cannot fix this.

This issue has been extremely annoying, and none of the solutions I found online worked. Now, it looks I have finally found a fix for this - however, at the cost of disabling the File Explorer search history (a feature I do not find useful anyway).

So:

To disable search history in File Explorer, use these steps:

1. Open Start.
2. Search for gpedit.msc and click OK to open the Local Group Policy Editor.
3. Browse the following path:User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > File Explorer
4. On the right side, double-click the Turn off display of recent search entries in the File Explorer search box policy.
5. Select the Enabled option.
6. Click the Apply button.
7. Click the OK button.

After that, when you create a new folder, the typing focus always stays on the folder name and never jumps to the address bar.
