What happened to the Snipping Tool Ruler?

Hello! I just noticed the Snipping Tool Ruler option has disappeared. This allowed me to highlight & draw straight lines after I snip/copy an image. It's missing & I need this reactivated. Is anyone aware of any other options? Not sure why Microsoft has possibly removed this from the Snipping tool. Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks!

Hi All

I believe the issue we are all having stems from another application called snip & sketch which included the ruler function. (now merged into snipping tool)

I have found an alternative for creating a straight line within snip tool if this is all you require. if you hold down the SHIFT key as you create the line it will snap at 45 degree increments.

This also applies for the arrow function, the rectangle will retain a square aspect ratio when shift is held.

I hope this helps!

Regards

Ross

Hi Kirito! I couldn't uninstall the old Snipping Tool version. It requires an escalation to our company administrator. Somehow, I was able to install another Snipping Tool app available in the Microsoft Store. The ruler version is working now. YAY!!! I pinned it to my taskbar. THANK YOU once again! :)

This doesn't seem to work for me. I use the snip and sketch with the ruler daily. Anyone know of an app similar that would work?

PLEASE BRING THE RULER BACK. I don't want to have to find a new app :(

I also have Windows Insider Beta on the Windows 11 machine. I don't know if that has anything to do with the ruler being gone but I went to another machine and DL'd the Snipping tool and voila, RULER!

    This is:

    Edition Windows 10 Home

    Version 22H2

    Installed on ‎9/‎14/‎2020

    OS build 19045.3930

Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0

I tried everything but a clean install to get that ruler back on the Windows 11 machine, too. I ran into a problem with the screen record side of it where you get a crazy error about the operation stopping because of an invalid file path or codec. I went directly to support for that one.

I hope we find a solution for this. I got used to this Snipping Tool version.

    Good luck!
