I had Money 2007 software but had updated through the years. Now I have a new windows 11 and want to put Money on the desktop. It loaded but because the original is not the saved program I was using it wont work. Is there a way to get a Sunset version?

Hi Don,
After Many, MANY hours of trying different methods, I've eventually found a way of importing the data !
I had a few false starts and had to re-try, but basically it boils down to using the account recovery option to import previously exported *.qif files from the old system and effectively doing a complete data migration from the old system to the new.
I had to devise a migration strategy, as the import process can double up on Account Transfer transactions if you are not very careful.
I could not find a way of importing the Regular Bill schedule, so this has to be done manually.
It's not for the feint hearted and does take a while, but if like me you have around 30 years of data in the old version, I thought it was worth the effort
If anyone is interested I have created a word document which fully details the process, but here's the method summary in case it's of use to anyone else.
Method:
When importing Account Transfers, the system will try to create both the From (Payment) and the To (Deposit) sides of the transaction. However, as we are importing both accounts separately, it does this for both accounts, which means these account transfers will double up, unless we control this in some way.
We do this in 2 ways :
This will then effectively just show a Payment transaction on the From Accounts and a Deposit transaction on the To Account.
Cheers - steve
(not sure how I can make the document available, but I'm happy to email it to anyone that would like more info. I obviously can't provide any further assistance on it, outside of the notes I have created)
Hi Don, thanks for your time.
It's frustrating ! I get your point about it might stop working at some point, but previous PC desktop lasted 12 years, so was hoping with new windows 11 PC I may get another 12 years.
But hey-ho, we have to move on eventually I guess.
Cheers - steve
yeah I tried that and got the same error message, but only after it had got my hopes up and said it was going to convert the .mny file to the latest version !
I've also tried exporting the individual accounts as .qif files and then using the Restore Account option on the new machine.
It was all looking sort of promising, but it appears to have just duplicated all the transactions when loading them, and also didn't load any of the categories, so I'm gonna have to clear down all the accounts in the new version and start again from scratch I recon. :-(
I've finally managed to get 30 years of detailed transactions out to excel using the report function (and that threw a number of errors) and probably just going to have to keep that data in excel for historical analysis.
Been on this now for 9 hours solid and just about ready to throw in the towel.
Well, I can't think of anything that you haven't tried.
I will add that in 2009 it occurred to me that Money Sunset might stop working someday so I've been running Money Sunset and Quicken, side by side, since 2009. Quicken easily imported Money data and has been a perfectly acceptable replacement for Money.
