I have been using this Windows desktop fine since this past December (2023). And starting last week, the mouse I had started lagging. So I tried a different mouse and that also started lagging on the computer.

I have tried the following:

  • Driver updates
  • Windows 11 reinstall (with data save)
  • Uninstalling mouse driver
  • Updating Windows

None of those worked. Any ideas would very much help!

EDIT: Plug a wired mouse into your computer

Why has Microsoft not fixed this yet? So many people have this issue. It's not a hardware issue, too many people have it. Fix it!

Yes, I have it. For me, If I plug my mouse in to the USB, that is not use wireless, I'm fine.

I've been tormented by this problem for a long time, and even thought about switching to a Mac. In between, I tried many things, such as: replacing the mouse (both wired and wireless), replacing the USB port, changing the settings for power saving, and releasing static electricity frequently. And many times consulting the manufacturer's service of the laptop. But no solution. Sometimes a week there is not a mouse problem, but will be in a day will suddenly continuous problem.

Until once the manufacturer of the laptop service (Lenovo) gave me a link to reinstall the drivers provided by the manufacturer. It's been almost 3 weeks since then, and I haven't had any more problems with the mouse. I feel that this time the problem is really solved.

    Thx all for the investigation!

I feel that there is a correlation with windows updates pending install.

It's worse before, and gets better after the install..

All the rest that I have tried has no impact.

Oh i’m sorry. That could indeed be software related. I believe the can be caused by windows wanting to send the mouse data thru hdmi to a eGPU and back which causes lag. I had this where my keyboard completely stopped working at all whenever using my HDMI. But I don’t know if that’s related to your issue.

Unfortunately, this only worked temporarily and I have a stuttery mouse again.

@Jim Braggaar, I use my MX Master in BT mode, not with the Unifying receiver, so unfortunately your solution doesn't apply to me.

I have two identical laptops (both HP Elitebooks) and I only have the issue one of my laptops. The only difference is that one is a managed device (managed by the company I work for, running Win 11 Ent), which is where the mouse works fine, but the other device (running Win 11 IoT Ent, also a corporate device but this one isn't managed) has the problem. It is so frustrating as until about 2 weeks ago there were no issues. Clearly an update somewhere has done something, but based on the really unusual behavior sometimes exhibited relating to displays I'm not really that confident its even Bluetooth related anymore.

I did some more testing over the weekend and it does seem to be display related. i use an eGPU at home with an RTX2060. When connected to the eGPU, or when having a monitor connected directly via. HDMI, I get the stutter, but when the laptop isn't connected to an external display, the mouse seems to be alright.
