windows update error (0x80070643) for kb5001716

At first, I was thinking I will leave it there without the update,

because my Windows machine is mainly for streaming Tidal.

After reading a suggestion about a fresh re-install of the latest version WIN10,

I think maybe I can try this since my pc doesn't has any important data files on it.

is the way to go because this will sure solve the problem, instead of spent two/three days trying other various method and find that the problem still there(this was my experience).

It doesn't really need to be fixed because the failure was on the older version (Oct 2023) of the patch when everyone on this thread already has successfully installed the newer version of the patch (March 2024).

And before that, the same error message happened when the newer October 2023 version was installed successfully and the older May 2023 version failed to install.

Of course, it failed because you already have the newer version of the patch already installed.

And sometime in September 2024 when the newer version of KB5001716 gets released, you will see the same error message again that the older March 2024 version would fail and the newer September 2024 would successfully install.

This has not been my experience. I solved the problem running a tool from Microsoft and I am not sure it is still there. I downloaded and ran

The first time I ran it, it fixed the problem and I was able to do updates successfully. I know there are a number of distributions so this problem may not affect all distributions.

I am not even sure the tool still but it did work for me and apparently others. Other than the fact that its performance changed a couple of days later when I ran it again (indicating that it was probably doing call backs to Microsoft ( which was a little disconcerting), it solved the problem.

I don't really know why you people kept on trying to "fix" a problem that is clearly a Microsoft Windows Update server problem. As my second screenshot (the long dark one) illustrates, this kb5001716 error doesn't prevent other updates from installing (the non-highlighted entries), so there is no need to "fix" anything.

This kb5001716 error message has been around since 2022 and it's well known to come back everytime there is a newer version of kb5001716 comes out. This time, it was the older February 2022 version failing to install in Nov 2022 (when the computer already installed the newer version).

The error message goes away automatically when Windows Update server clears their cache and no longer offers you the older version --- every single time.

As your thread illustrated, you got a successfully install message for the newer version and an error message on the older version. Then you immediately tried to fix the problem yourself. I am telling you that this error message will go away automatically after a few days when their update servers clear the cache. This KB gets update twice a year so it is well known bug showing up every single time. Microsoft will eventually figure it out that you already have the newer version installed and no longer offers you the older version. You just didn't wait long enough.
