Windows 10 22h2 security update [KB5034441] fails to install with code: 0x80070643

Given the timing (ie immediately following a software update). I’d be inclined to think it’s a software, rather that a hardware issue. Also I’d say that the behaviour is a bit too selective to be a hardware issue.

I would suggest a clean rebuild of the PC would be advised before you start spending the bucks.

Well, I just did a complete Windows update as served up by the W10 Create Media tool: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

The processes took about 3 to 4 hours

However, after that all time, Windows update revealed that the original two problematic updates, plus some others others, still needed to be updated.

On the first pass, both the original problematic updates downloaded to 100%, but soon afterwards the install of KB5034441 failed and then its download, which had reported as succeeded at 100%, reported as failed.

Much later, the install of KB5036892 got stuck at 20% and would not continue. This seems to be a similar problem that others have had as well - with no solution from MS that I could find.

I rebooted, the system made a variety of updates at start-up, This took at least another hour.

When the system came back up, it started downloading yet another KB (KB50434685) and the installing of KB5034441 continued - and eventually appeared to finish.

KB50434685 finished downloading and installed.

Another 40 minutes or so.

The system prompted me to restart it, which I did.

Windows update then said KB5037036 is required, it downloaded, installed and called for another reboot.

After the reboot, Windows Updates is reporting the system is up to date!

woo-hoo!

Turn on system protection for your C drive for the update then turn it off.

Here is another way to state what I think Mr. Besler was saying: Most of us are not computer techs. We don't want to tamper with settings. If we must, at least make the instructions intelligible to non-savvy people who comprise the majority of MS users. As to this update, either fix it, give us easy non-threatening instructions on how we can fix it, or make it go away so it doesn't try to update each time we boot up. That said, can anyone provide some guidance?

This worked for me . I used the Media Creation Tool and reinstalled Windows 10 . Microsoft does all the work , All you do is follow the instructions . I did NOT do a clean install . I opted to keep my files and apps but backed them up anyway. It is a time consuming method but you do not have to be a computer expert , because Microsoft does all the technical stuff. I did not read about this at the community . It was another forum for tech issues , but I figured if anyone can fix this then it would be Microsoft ,by installing the latest version of Windows 10 and it did. Try it ! All you have to lose is 5 hours of your life (it's a long process) . Start here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10  I'm running 2H22 . A reinstall of Windows 10 worked for me . Go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 to use the Media Creation Tool. Go down to " Create Windows 10 installation Media " and click "Download Now " . Follow instructions . I chose to keep my files and Apps but I backed up everything anyway before proceeding. The reinstall apparently repartitioned the hard drive since I have downloaded many updates ever since this reinstallation without incident . I have read that this has not worked for everyone . I have 2H22 Windows 10 . This method has the advantage of Microsoft fixing the problem instead of troubleshooting the partition by yourself . Hope this was useful
