How do I stop "Show news and interests on the taskbar" from turning on?

Whenever I turn off the "Show news and interests on the taskbar" setting, it eventually turns itself back on. While it is off, it works properly, disappearing from my taskbar. But then around 10 minutes later, it reappears on my taskbar with the setting being turned back on.

    I succeeded in shutting of News and Interests by following the recommendations for editing the registry:

    • regedit in the search bar.
    • Edit->Find in the Registry Editor
    • search for 'ShellFeedsTaskbarViewMode
    • double-click on the entry.
    • change the 'Value data:' field from '0' to '2'
    • click 'OK'
    • File>Exitt in the Registry Editor

    This worked for me, but with a modification:

    ShellFeedsTaskbarViewMode won't allow a value change for some reason

    ShellFeedsTaskbarPreviousViewMode does allow a change and appears to have solved the problem as days have passed with no more news junk popping up.

    Hope I know what I'm doing and thanks for the tip.

    Now Check your TaskManager - is it still lurking in the dark, consuming resources and doing who knows what else? all these hoops seem to do nothing but remove it from your field of view while its intended purpose keeps on running in the background.

    The evil process has returned!! I have it disabled and yet it's still running in the background, I want to nuke it and destroy it with a flamethrower

    Hello I had the same issue and finally found a work-a-round.

    Going into the registry to fix it was useless. My hotkey was already set to 2. A waste of time. (at least for me.) Other solutions offered were also a waste of time. I finally found a work around to kill it for good, removing it from your task manager.

    He gives instructions on how to use your firewall, to block taskbar search

    And this stops News and Interests from appearing in your task manager and hogging memory, Something Microsoft should have done in the first place!
