They won't let anyone switch out...it's to piss everyone off.
Windows 11 - Can't switch out of S mode
When I follow the steps in the Microsoft Store to try to switch out of S mode, all I get is a message:
"Something happened and we couldn't start the upgrade"
and a Try Again button.

2024-10-17T17:52:37+00:00 I tried all the "solutions" I could find to getting the windows 11 Home laptop out of S mode and only after having Microsoft technical support call me was it resolved. I recommend doing that by going into Settings>Activation and choosing the Help option. For me it involved turning off device encryption in settings and then going to advanced start up options, restarting and choosing the F7 option on the next start up screen. MSFT support will walk you through it if you just say it may have to do with device encryption.

2024-09-15T02:36:21+00:00 Hello! I'm Jen, and I'd be happy to help you out with this issue.
I'm sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. Please make sure to install all Windows and Microsoft Store updates then try switching out of S mode again. If the problem remains, you can try resetting Microsoft store. Press Windows key + R to open the Run command window. Type wsreset.exe and click OK. Simply wait for the process to complete then open Microsoft store again to check if the issue is fixed . Let me know if this works. Thank you.
I hope this information helps. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll be glad to assist you further.
Best Regards!

2024-08-30T16:27:12+00:00 Hi,
I'm having the exact same problems and I have gone through the same process as Kevin. I can't get a local user account to work, nor my original account. This is extremely distressing as the programs I am trying to run are UBIQUITOUS in the scientific, academic and tech worlds. For example, the App store or Microsoft hasn't approved GraphPad, Tableau or Anaconda??? These are everywhere and used by millions of people.
Generally, under the local user, I get a never changing greyed out Get box after trying once, then if I click anything, it says try again. For the primary user, it simply immediately says the error mentioned and never works.
I'm 10 restarts in, and I'm contacting the software manufacturers to let them know they're being singled out and disallowed by Microsoft.
