Hello,

I have been plagued by countless annoying random game crashes the past months with my pc with all pointing out to this error (from event viewer) when they occur: "The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event: 

\Device\00000092

Reset TDR occurred on GPUID:100

The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table"

Have tried numerous possible solutions already from forums, but with no luck.. Fortnite and many other games crash after random intervals. Can anyone suggest a solution for this?

My specs are the following:

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz

Installed RAM G-SKILL F4 3200-C16 32,0 GB DDR4

GPU EVGA GTX 980 Superclocked ACX 2.0

Drives Patriot M.2 P300 512GB and Seagate Hybrid HDD 4TB

Motherboard GIGABYTE H510M H V2

Microsoft Windows 11 Professional (x64) Build 22631.3593 (23H2)

Have to note that i recently replaced almost all parts from the pc due to a previous motherboard burnout which killed many components, expect the PSU (which was repaired by the technician) and GPU (which the technician said was saved from the burnout) and the Hybrid HDD (have this HDD since 2016). Apart from this, i restored my windows partition through Macrium Reflect image backup (from the Hybrid HHD saved backup).

    That rarely works. I would do a clean install of Windows 11 and try older drivers just to have the same problem.

    What fixed it for me? I contacted ASUS and they bought back my RTX 4090. I now have a Zotac RTX 4070 Ti SUPER and have ZERO problems with the latest NVIDIA drivers.

    I just don't think they did a good job compatibility wise with some cards.

    The crashes are back again. I tried to roll even back to 472 but it crashed the moment i opened ragnarok. I'll try other methods when i find the strengthen.

    After weeks of having this error and program crashes I think I discovered the solution. I reformatted my windows on a new partition and installed all drivers except for the GPU drivers. Ran the game that always crashes and low and behold no crashes. I checked what version driver was loaded and in device manager it was 30.0.14.7212. So I found the corresponding NVidia game ready driver which was... https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/180557/en-us/

    So I went back to my original version of windows and removed the drivers with DDU and installed that nvidia driver i just linked. It has been 24 hours and no crashes.

    Thanks man. I had been struggling with this issue for months until I saw this comment. The error happened every time I played a game. After reading this, I did two things, which might have fixed it for me. The first thing I did was search through NVIDIA forums to look for any old driver that had comments saying it was the most stable. I found that to be driver 537.58. I uninstalled the driver I had, which was the latest, using DDU in safe mode. All the usual steps. Then I clean installed the 537.58 driver. The second thing I also did was cap my frame rate in NVIDIA global settings to 58fps. The reason I did this was because right before the driver would hang, the FPS would shoot up. I just played GOW Ragnarok and i haven't had a crash yet. In contrast, this game was crashing everytime i would start the story mode. I will come come back if it hangs again.
