I've been repeatedly trying to install this update, but each time I try to launch the update, it will suddenly stop at 96% and tell me there was something wrong with the install and my PC files would return to the previous "un-updated" state.
I've tried every method I could easily find online (Removing all non-essential hardware, did clean boot into Windows, et cetera.), but none of them fixed the isue and I'm suspecting it's a deeper, less common issue.

My update stuck in downloading 10% and then failed to install!
tried everything but then this magic happened:
going into the registry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
And deleting the vdsldr.exe key (well, I renamed it to "_vdsldr.exe" just in case)
Now everything worked as a gem!
I came to the same conclusion this morning and then got your message confirming my thoughts. I’m letting the Geek Squad do the work. Too much hassle to undertake by myself. Thanks much for your reply!
I had the same problem. Did everything that was on the internet. Use Microsoft install assistant and had two version of windows 11 in the same volume. Solution: complete backup and fresh install that wipes everything. Copy backup and all good.
The Internet is full of comments about this fix, but it has never worked for me. I am constantly struggling to get updates, and it never works. Now this update from 22H2 to 23H2 also does not work on 20 hosts out of 200. Monitoring tools list the hosts as end-of-life, but Windows Update either cannot install with an error or shows 22H2 as Up to Date... No idea what to do other than to reimage those hosts. I would understand if one or another update is not going through, but this issue with the Windows updates is ongoing with no fix.
