I was prepared for the crew to wipe and reinstall everything, so I brought a backup disk with me. I was surprised and overjoyed when I learned they didn't do this. I assume that's why it took a few days longer to fix. I may have an especially good squad at the store I use.
Unable to install Windows 11 Update Version 23H2 (KB5036980)
I've been repeatedly trying to install this update, but each time I try to launch the update, it will suddenly stop at 96% and tell me there was something wrong with the install and my PC files would return to the previous "un-updated" state.
I've tried every method I could easily find online (Removing all non-essential hardware, did clean boot into Windows, et cetera.), but none of them fixed the isue and I'm suspecting it's a deeper, less common issue.

2025-03-01T20:29:26+00:00 I didn't have the issues. I never use them. I've had clients that, when I was doing desktop support, had given the geeks their PC and all they did was reinstall the OS. I would need to reinstall everything, resolve file issues, restore files, just a plethora of things that they could've done and keep a customer. Instead, I get the customer!
No biggie!

2025-03-01T16:03:22+00:00 Usually, the scans they use are available to the rest of us. I'm not a "geek", but I've done this for a lot of years and almost always find my way to a solution, and it never involves the geek squad. In fact, I have had to fix more stuff they messed up than they have had to follow up on me. I'm glad your experience has always worked out. That tells me that they are hiring better personnel than they used to.
Good job guy!!!

2025-03-01T15:41:41+00:00 In frustration, finally took my PC to the Geek Squad at BestBuy), and they took a few days to troubleshoot. Eventually, they discovered a corrupt something, removed that, reinstalled Windows, and now all's good.
IMO, we users could work on this forever and never get it fixed. There's a time for professional know-how. My membership with BestBuy's Geek Squad has paid off every year fixing problems like this and the tricky stuff.
