Why we can't move the taskbar in windows11. Can we bring the updates in this version, to move the taskbar position?

This seems like a wasted complaint based on how many comments I've read in this thread, and how far the dates go back on those comments, but you never know when just one more complaint will be the turning point, so....

This has to be the most baffling change from M$ I can remember in the 20 years that I've been a software developer, and that's saying a lot when considering all the silly changes over the last 20 years. Changes that mostly were undone or improved enough to keep everyone happy along the way. Especially by now, they should so used to making changes people didn't like and then having to do more to resolve it, that you would think they would take a LOT of caution before forcing something like this on users.

The stats on improved efficiency when using a moveable/customizable taskbar when performing complicated, power user type tasks, are undeniable. I wish I could listen to the conversations the MS developers had where attempted to argue why locking it to the bottom would be better for these types of users, whether they want to accept that or not.

Microsoft, if you are listening....my entire organization upgraded to Windows 11 over the last few weeks, and this design change has caused major disappointment and panic for probably every single employee in the IT department. Probably other departments too. We've been talking about this about as much as we are talking about our actual work. We are currently discussing whether this is enough of a setback that we should go with another OS.

I suggest that when you are contemplating whether to add this taskbar feature back, you look not at the supposed number of users that would use it, but instead the number of reasons why a user might need that feature. Reading just the comments in this thread, there are even more justifications to do this than I imagined.

Please, please, please resolve this taskbar mess.

I couldn't agree more it as an awful decision that serves no purpose other than stroking the ego of whoever decided not to retain the oh so useful feature that has featured in previous editions of Windows for some time. Let us be clear, it is not just the inability to move it to the left, right or top of the screen but also to change the size so that you can have multiple rows of open windows (typically 2) if you want.

I don't like combining taskbars / stacking windows as it make the process of working with multiple files take that much longer - especially if you are looking at similar documents - it can be very hard to tell which is which.

I work on 3 screens and 2 of them are set up in portrait mode (why? what shape is your typical letter?), it is completely impossible to use the taskbar at the bottom of your screen when using portrait mode. Once you have a few basic apps pinned (Outlook, Word, Excel, OneNote, preferred browser, adobe, Teams etc.) and add in any particular software that you need - and you can't even fit all of your icons on the bottom of a portrait screen let alone actual full size tabs.

Here we are moving into an era when everything is supposed to be customisable so that people can work the way that they want and what does Microsoft do? They give us a taskbar you can't increase to double rows, you don't get the "use small icons" anymore, by default the icons are central but wow you can tell them to be aligned to the left like it used to be... so generous.

Surely the fact that over 45,000 people have reviewed this thread must be indicative that people are searching for why or how to do what they have always done and want to continue to do. There are many other similar threads going back basically since it Windows 11 was released. Here is one from December 2022 (https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-do-i-move-the-taskbar-to-the-top-of-the-screen/d105291a-43dd-45bc-abe3-0c929c8ff6a7) and that one has over 174,000 views.

We all know that most users don't search for these things or comment on them either, mainly the more IT literate users are the only ones that bother. That doesn't mean that those other users wouldn't like this functionality restored, for example many of my staff find it very frustrating.

Will they provide the functionality, well Microsoft have on several occasions said that not enough people have requested the functionality. Yet according to the above article from April 2022 it was already the most requested functionality on the forums. Clearly a lot of people have now requested it and want it back.

Perhaps the decision not to include it was a technical one and maybe overcoming that technical issue is harder than we appreciate (especially when they are looking at other methods of interaction with the taskbar beyond a simple keyboard and mouse), but if that is the case I am sure all the people that have requested it would understand as long as that explanation was followed by the words "we are working on it."

I will add my 2 cents worth to the complaints about being unable to move the taskbar. I auto-hide my taskbar, but when I am at the bottom of a page to edit something, the taskbar pops up and covers what I am working on. This is beyond annoying. At times I want to move the taskbar to anywhere except the bottom. I can't believe Microsoft is so oblivious to their customers' complaints.

Exactly. that is precisely why I need it to move as well

Another vote here for allowing the Task Bar to be moved to the right and left sides of the screen.

I cannot understand why Microsfot would remove this feature - sufficient to say it was the first (of many) serious frustration when my organization forced the upgrade to Windows 11. Microsoft, why do you do this? removing simple features that are so widely used?

Please add this function back like the hundreds of comments here requested. I'm sure there are thousands that feel the same way but didn't have the time to write comments.
