Remap or disable 'Copilot' chatbot key on new Windows keyboards

Keith - To emphasize Kathryn's post, it's important to use PowerToys' "Remap a shortcut", not "Remap a key". If you have entered a key remapping, delete it and enter a shortcut remapping instead. Below is the mapping I have, which works fine to select with Shift etc.

Like a few others have replied, (HP Elitebook user here) I also cannot remap the co-pilot key to control.

It maybe maps it to control, but it does not work together with R or Enter or V... (Ctrl-r for refresh, ctrl-enter for e.g running SQL in some clients, ctrl-v for Paste...)

So, it just doesn't work.

You can use the keyboard-manager feature in Microsoft PowerToys tool to remap or disable the Copilot chatbot key on your Windows keyboard. Here are the steps:

1. Download and install the Microsoft PowerToys tool from the official Microsoft website.
2. Open the PowerToys tool and select the "Keyboard Manager" tab.
3. Click on the "Remap a key" button.
4. Choose the Copilot chatbot key from the "Physical Key" dropdown menu.
5. Select the key or function you want to remap the Copilot chatbot key to from the "Mapped To" dropdown menu.
6. Click "OK" to save the changes.

If you want to completely disable the Copilot chatbot key, you can remap it to the "Disabled" option.

I shouldn't need to DOWNLOAD PowerToys to fix this. It should be, like all SETTINGS, be configurable.

PowerToys does allow remapping the Co-Pilot key to function as the Ctrl key, but there’s a limitation: the remapped Ctrl key won’t work with modifiers like Shift or Alt. If you're a developer, this can be a significant drawback, as the right Ctrl key is essential for many common shortcuts.

I’m currently using the Snapdragon X Elite Lenovo laptop for the first time today, and I plan to write a small program utilizing low-level keyboard hooks to see if I can make the Co-Pilot key function as a proper Ctrl key. My goal is to ensure it works seamlessly with modifiers (e.g., enabling shortcuts like Ctrl + Shift + B to build a solution).

One potential challenge in developing this app is that the Co-Pilot key appears to emulate three simultaneous key presses (Shift + Win + F22). This behavior can quickly exceed the keyboard's n-key rollover limit, causing additional key combinations—especially those involving modifiers—to fail to register properly.

Finally, I had changed the co-pilot key to function as ctrl

1. Install Microsoft power toys
2. Navigate to keyboard manager
3. Click on re-map short cut
4. add short cut remapping
5. click on co-pilot key. it will take the keyboard shortcut
6. right side click on short cut pencil icon
7. click on ctrl button on left and click "OK"
8. click on drop down and change to ctrl right

This will work to change co-pilot to ctrl right button.
