My PC has had issues for years with windows as a whole and one persistent problem has always been windows updates. I've fixed pretty much everything else and the only problem my computer has is not being able to update windows. I have also tried using command prompt and issuing DISM and SFC /SCANNOW prompts but nothing has worked. Any ideas/fixes for my issue?

Error code: 0X8007370d

Please do the following:

  • Open the folder "C:\Windows\System32\Config"
  • In the above folder, rename "COMPONENTS" to "COMPONENTS.OLD"
  • Download COMPONENTS.zip
  • Unzip and extract the file "COMPONENTS" to the desktop.
  • Move "COMPONENTS" from your desktop to "C:\Windows\System32\Config".

See if you can install updates and run DISM now.

Please see if you can install the enablement package, which upgrades the OS to 23H2.

If that doesn't help, do the following:

    1. Download Windows 11 Media Creation Tool (MCT) from this link:

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=2156295

    1. Run MCT and download the ISO it recommends for your system. Do *not* uncheck "Use the recommended options for this PC".

    1. Right-click on the downloaded ISO and choose "Mount." This assigns the ISO a drive letter.

    1. Run setup.exe from the ISO drive. This starts the setup.

(Your files, settings and applications will be preserved if you use the ISO recommended for your system by the Media Creation Tool.)

Thank you so much for your reply. Downloading the Windows 11 Media Creation Tool (MCT) seems to have worked. My system is now saying it is up to date.! I really appreciate your help with this!!!!

    Hi Scott,

    Please do the following:

    • Open the folder "C:\Windows\System32\Config"
    • In the above folder, rename "COMPONENTS" to "COMPONENTS.OLD"
    • Download COMPONENTS.zip

    • Move "COMPONENTS" from your desktop to "C:\Windows\System32\Config".

See if you can install updates and run DISM now.

Thank you so much for responding. I loaded the new COMPONENTS file as instructed and it allowed me to install a cumulative update. The Windows 11, version 23H2, was downloading next but I thought I should let the cumulative update finish first so I restarted. While that allowed the cumulative update to finish installing, I now receive error number 0xc007000d in connection with installing Windows 11, version 23H2.

Any ideas on how to get Windows 11, version 23H2, to install?
