My computer will not download the latest windows update.

In my settings it says that the 2024-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5040442) and the 2024-07 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5039895) is ready to be downloaded and installed but as I proceed with the update it keeps saying there was an error and the update will not install. I have tried restarting my PC and looking in my bios to find a problem but my troubleshooting has not worked.

    I'm getting the same problem as of yesterday, error codes 0x800706be and 0x800706ba, cannot download

    2024-07 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5 and 4.8.1 for Windows 11, version 23H2 for x64 (KB5039895)
    2024-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 11 Version 23H2 for x64-based Systems (KB5040442)

    and five other Intel updates. Troubleshooting doesn't solve it.

    So what's the problem, if it's common to a lot of users, and why doesn't MS find a fix themselves rather than putting the responsibility onto customers? My 70 year-old parents couldn't follow these instructions, they wouldn't have the first clue. We're all supposed to be IT experts now just to make basic MS systems work properly?

    The problem is most likely because the Event log service crashes when the update is being installed. Have seen this on many systems. A repair installation fixes this. By the way, if you want to send feedback to Microsoft, use the Feedback Hub (Win + F).

    Here's an easier method to repair Windows 11. There is now a built-in "Reinstall now" option in Settings.
