So ive had this problem for a long time now.. Windows update will not install and my firewall will not turn on (grayed out). I did a scan in the CMD and it says there is missing or corrupted files. I tried to do a ton of fixes on it an nothing is working. Also my firewall says "update your firewall settings but when i try to click on the use recommended setting its shoots me another error code (0x8007045b). I have a feeling that those 2 problems are connected can anyone help me?

Note: Ive also tried these in the powershell but that didnt work either.

net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop msiserver
Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start msiserver

It seems that the original error is fixed! I still get told there's 127 corruptions, 131 inconsistencies, and 131 warnings when I run the component scanner...and now windows update gives me a different error. But I got a few things installed anyhow. I'll be looking into how to do a repair installation tomorrow (I've not had the time today due to family obligations)

Thank you for all your help!

    Hi,

May I know what the new error is?

By the way, here's how to repair install Windows 10.

    1. Download Windows 10 Media Creation Tool (MCT) from this link:

    https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=2265055

    1. Run MCT and accept the license agreement.

    1. Click "Upgrade this PC now". This starts the repair installation.

Your apps, settings, and files will be kept by default during a repair install/in-place upgrade.

Actually after running the MCT, and installing a clean update everything is perfect! No more error codes, windows is fully up to date, and now I can upgrade to windows 11 as well! I re-ran the component scanner and no more errors. This is amazing!

Thank you SO MUCH for all your help Ramesh!

    Hi Lirilei,

I was able to repair your hive and load it. Can you share the output log?

    Here's my output log

    Please rename C:\Windows\System32\Config*COMPONENTS* to COMPONENTS.old.

    Download COMPONENTS (Lirilei).zip

Unzip and copy the COMPONENTS file to C:\Windows\System32\Config.

That should fix the 0x800703F1 error. Let me know

    .

However, your component store has other issues, which a repair installation should fix.

    Hi there!

I ran it, and while it tells me there's 150 corruptions, and 131 warnings at the end of the scan it tells me to press any key to continue, and it gives me a ComponentsScanner.txt file for notepad. But nothing actually gets repaired. I'm going to post the file on sysnative and go from there. I'll update if it gets fixed, or not. Thank you for your help so far!
