How do I keep my mouse from leaving the window on FPS games?

So, when I'm playing any FPS games (or games that use the mouse to track the game environment), my mouse cursor goes invisible. However, instead of being locked to the center of the screen, it moves around freely, to the point where i have accidently minimized or closed out of my game. Also worth mentioning, this is on a laptop, not a multiple screen PC.

Any help with this problem would be greatly appreciated, as I've exhausted my sources of research and none of them helped.

After wasting so much time trying all the fancy stuff, not using game bar was the only thing that worked.

sounds like a frustrating issue! A few things to try:

Check Game Settings: Look for a “Confine Cursor” or “Lock Mouse” option in the game’s settings to prevent the cursor from leaving the screen.

Update Drivers: Ensure your mouse and graphics drivers are updated.

Disable Background Apps: Background apps or overlays (e.g., Discord, Steam) might be interfering. Disable them temporarily to test.

Full-Screen Mode: Switch the game to full-screen instead of windowed or borderless.

That is from an update from Windows. I had the exact same problem, tracked down the solve to get gpedit onto your system.

    Link to the Microsoft answers:

    https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-enable-the-gpeditmsc-on-windows-10-and-11/dbc76919-f2b5-4dec-a2b7-bcf545c34d00

    Short and sweet:

    1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator
    2. Run the 2 (a and b) commands in Command Prompt:
      a) FOR %F IN ("%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientTools-Package~*.mum") DO (DISM /Online /NoRestart /Add-Package:"%F")
      b) FOR %F IN ("%SystemRoot%\servicing\Packages\Microsoft-Windows-GroupPolicy-ClientExtensions-Package~*.mum") DO (DISM /Online /NoRestart /Add-Package:"%F")
    3. Restart your PC
    4. Press Win + R
    5. Enter the command gpedit.msc and press enter.
